Fewer and fewer teams have clear, committed quarterback relationships

With the exception of few teams, maybe 5-6, every NFL team has question marks at the QB position but I think all fans would agree that the position is overvalued. The league is set to start negotiating a new network contract extension this year I think, which of course means more money for the league and players. In other words, the QB salaries will continue escalating if they don't some control. A guy like Trevor Lawerence could be looking at $50M a year for his 2nd deal.

All the question marks seem to suggest the league and owners are losing patience. Paying a ton of money and nothing the show.

Can anyone see the Owners go full Kaepernick on QB pricing?
T'would be very difficult.

Only top tier quarterbacks under 30

Mahomes
(Gap)
Watson
Dak
Murray

everyone else is just a game manager or has inflated stats like Herbet and aren’t destined for greatness

That would be BAD Quarterbacks like Russel Wilson and Deshaun would just go to actually competent teams are dominate divisions.

Owners will overpay forever

Yes a QB Market correction is overdue. More than anything, I think there needs to be a QB middle class, if possible. However, with a possible surplus of average-to-above average QBs it may come pretty soon.

I'm waiting for someone coming in with the singular player cap and not think of all the complications that come with it.

Wait...
I think I just did it!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

It's not as if the salary cap isn't complicated already.

There's no technical reason a cap rule that said, for example, no single player may command more than 25% of a teams cap couldn't be implemented.

I can see issues brought up by the Player's Union all over even that, but I'm not going to be on here much longer tonight and I didn't broach the subject with the purpose of getting deep.
I just, regretfully, brought it up and now we get to see if more peeps chime in and how they do so.

I've been saying for years that the QB market was due for a correction.
Greater supply from college of NFL ready QBs, NFL QBs protected more and lasting longer. Still only 32 starters needed. Greater supply, flat demand. Cap% should be going *down*, yet it is skyrocketing.

I'd rather draft more Dak's. Tough running QBs. And run them instead of trying to preserve them forever, only to have to mortgage the team to pay them their free agent contract, when you *can't* run them into the dirt anymore because you have too much invested in them.

Pay QB's less, other players make more.

Giants aren't good to go on QB unless your fans of another team. Jones is not the answer at QB for the Giants, he is terrible

This is true. When that correction happens. Does it make roster building any easier?

Teams save money on the QB but all the other prime positions get more expensive. OT, DE, CB all start demanding a few million more per year.

If I’m an agent for a DE or OT or anything like that. And I see a limit placed on QB salaries which leaves more cap space for other positions.......

At any one time in the league, there are only 8 quarterbacks worth even taking a risk on.
4 current elite qbs. 2 of the last round of elite qbs. And the 2 of the next round of elite qbs who are currently in the league.

Everyone else should be looking to improve.

Just not that simple.
I get it.
We want it to be that way.
It's not.
Of course. However, the Player's Union represents everyone, not just QB's. At some point, it would seem others at other positions would want a cap on the QB position.

It would need to be the position group of QB otherwise agents would always just demand the 25% figure for their client. Similar to the max contract problem in the NBA. Players that aren't worth max deals are getting them.
