Alright, that's it. Enough dreaming. I don't like getting excited about something that makes so much sense, because all too often, it never comes to pass.

True. My take? We're going to pretend to try to trade Ellis and when it doesn't happen Ellis is going to pretend like he wants to be here.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I don't think Ellis would do that. I truly believe he doesn't want to play here, for Coach Parcells in this defense. And if he turned around and pretended otherwise, he has even less conviction than I ever thought.

He doesn't but if he knows he's here for certain, simple self interest will require him to assume his beloved role of "consumate professional" and do his best if for no other reason than to do otherwise will cost him money here or elsewhere. And don't be confused, Ellis has a lot of conviction but that conviction is all related to him and a pile of pictures of dead presidents.

I agree if not traded which I don't think will happen I expect Ellis to go out and play hard. If he causes problems or is not doing the job then I expect him to be gone next season and any hope of a decent contract will also be gone.

I strongly doubt teams will look at one year in a system he supposedly didn't fit as indicative of his abilities. Nor does a few years of griping dispel the perception that he is an upstanding citizen. It might cost him a little money, but not much. Competent defensive linemen aren't in great supply.

I think if Ellis is here he will play hard as he always has. As for his griping I have said before the off-season is the time to voice your concerns but once we hit camp I expect Ellis to play hard if he doesn't then they can cut him. You feel different well that's your opinion we will see what happens

I just doubt a guy that is so obviously obsessed with looking out for #1 is going to take any chances about his future. He has no financial incentive whatsoever of not playing hard and he's probably smart enough to know that going half speed is when you get hurt. On the other hand if he does play hard and produce his supposed concern about being cut will be reduced, he might even get a renegotiated deal here or if not find teams willing to meet Dallas asking price in a trade after the season.

Right now there's lots of teams that would be delighted to take Ellis for next to nothing but IMO there may be none that wants to pony up a 3rd for him. And I can't see us taking anything less. So that's why he'll end up staying this year IMO.
