Looks like the rumors are flying now that the Texans might want to trade down.

I know all the reasons why this doesn't make sense for the Cowboys.

But...

Would you give what it takes to jump to #1 and get Clowney.

Would that be a difference maker for this team? Is he a rare enough talent to make this leap?

Again, this is a rumor, so the likelihood is slim to none.

Just looking for your opinion on a trade if it were possible.

I'm guessing the Texans would have quite a few suitors for that #1 pick, and therefore the ransom they'd demand wouldn't be worth it.

As far as Clowney goes, I don't watch enough college ball to make a legit assessment, but it seems like the gurus say there's some question about the kid's work ethic. So I'm not sure he'd be the immediate impact player some believe.

He won't be that big of a difference maker. Will need to give up way too much. We need those draft picks to keep building. [building, not rebuilding]. As we need too many other positions filled, especially for depth.

If they Cowboys paid the price to jump all the way to 1 and didn't take s QB they would be idiots.

Jerry said we couldn't get up there to take Johnny Football even if we were willing to give up 3 drafts, so Clowney is out of reach, too.

At what cost? Our first this year and a first next year plus more picks? No thanks. One defensive player that comes with no guarantee ruins the whole build through the draft concept.

I wouldn't have any interest whatsoever. He may be a phenom in the league but I don't trust a guy with the 1st pick overall who can turn his motor off and on whenever he wants to.

So what type of deal we talking, multiple first round picks?

If I am doing that type of a deal, it is going to be for a guy that does not take downs off. Clowney was making "business decisions" at South Carolina last season.

I think clowny will end up be a bust. At best he will be avg.

there is no one in this draft worth trading up from #16 to #1...I have said that I am not sold on Clowney and I stick by that...I think people still look at his big hit that removed the helmet from 2 years ago and think he will be doing that every play...he wasn't impressive this past season to warrant a #1 overall pick...he is good, I just don't think #1 good....and @BAZ do you actually think the cowboys would be idiots to jump to #1 and not take a QB? did I read that right? If Andrew Luck were in this draft, I could see entertaining the thought, but there are no QB's in this draft worth selling the farm to get them...and, the cost to move to #1 from #16 is extremely prohibitive....

I understand the OP posting this, but I wouldn't do this 100 times out of 100

I would rather have a combination of 3 DL that are productive or have the chance at productivity than 1 diva DE that has bust potential. Too much of a risk

I wouldn't do it. I am not for trading up but I would rather trade up for Mack instead of Clowney if I had to choose.

That would maybe get us to the 6-7th pick anyway. It'd cost way more still to get all the way to 1st overall. Impossible almost.
I'm sure if he fell to the 5th or 6th pick though, there would at least be some discussion about it.
