Denver plans to franchise D.Thomas (ESPN)

Jerry's words on Claiborne. He was quoted as saying Claiborne has done enough to justify it, but there have been no talks of doing it within the organization as of yet. (DMN)

There is going to be quite a few interesting free agents this year.

Looking down this short list, the the name that jumps out is Orakpo. Although he has been more of a 3-4 OLB, he played DE all through college at UT, where he won the Lombardi, Nagurski, and Hendricks awards (the latter given to the best DE in CFB). He was the 13th overall pick in 2009, posting great numbers at the combine including a 39.5 vertical, 4.63 40, and 31 BP reps.

He'll turn 29 on July 31, but he rested last year with a torn pec. Injuries have not been a problem, though, as he's been consistent, athletic, and a workout warrior.

Since he is from Texas, he might be inclined to sign with the 'Boys, especially considering their new-found competitiveness. He still has some fuel in the tank, and he is quick and strong enough to be disruptive despite weighing 257. He actually may be more suited to returning to DE at this point in his career. His frame and style is what we drafted in Lawrence, but of course Orakpo is polished, would be a good mentor, and should fit the Marinelli rushman mold.

Could really be a good fit and value deal -- of course, depending on what Marinelli thinks.

I like the talent, but Orakpo has had season ending injuries in 2 of the last 3 years and only put up a half of a sack in 7 games last year. We can do better, unless he is really cheap.

That statement is patently false.

Injuries have been a big factor, especially when it comes to the pectoral injury he suffered. This is not the first, not the second, but the third instance of injury to that area.

And it's a key injury for a player whose job requires constant pushing.

What's the word on Rahim Moore? I'd like to upgrade FS at the very least in the secondary.

Watched quite a few Seahawk games..Maxwell gets worked and thats with Kam and Earl Thomas behind him. Now imagine him without, I'll pass.

Seen Maxwell make quite a few plays. So what if he gets more work, he still makes the plays....bring him on in....

This is the problem. Just don't know about him. Would lean toward no but....

I'd look at S, CB, and DT first. Hard to find a DE in FA. One CB would be my best guess. Someone who can tackle well and move to FS later on or even play a FS equivalent in SPs. I'd draft a CB, S and DL particularly a pass rusher or a 3.

I would go CB in the draft and take a chance on Orakpo or Bennett in FA.

Actually Doc, if you look at Orakpo's sack numbers, they declined when Washington went to the 34. While he was in the 43, he was actaully averaging 9 to 10 sacks a season. He fits much better in the 43, based on his stats.

And it will never heal. Ever. It's ended his season three times and will continue to do so because it will always be torn and only has to be pushed or pulled to put him on IR. We've got enough cheerleaders.
