NFL says Solder touchdown play was illegal

PHOENIX -- Remember the touchdown play two weeks ago that caused a mess of 300-pound men to celebrate like small children on the last day of school? The one that tackle Nate Solder said caused him to black out as he neared the goal line?

It never should have happened.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the NFL's vice president of officiating Dean Blandino explained why the Patriots had an illegal formation on the play when Solder recorded his first NFL catch and first NFL touchdown in the same play against the Colts in the AFC title game.

"There was an issue on that play where on the previous play, [Cameron] Fleming had reported as an eligible player," Blandino said. "And on the Solder touchdown he went back to playing an ineligible position. That’€™s illegal. That’€™s an illegal substitution. So that’€™s something we discussed with the crew. Bill [Belichick] was made aware of it. So we’€™re going to be looking for that, make sure we follow the proper mechanics so that doesn’€™t happen again."

Blandino might as well just record this statement and "play when needed". How often do we hear these kinds of statements in a year?

Lmao... So the NFL admits the Patriots were employing illegal formations when they are already in the SB, just like Blandino is not saying they are going to review the rules on the Dez catch..

Umm, Dean, you moron, he already knew. That's why he did it.

It's all the more comical when Brady was telling us after the game maybe they should familiarize themselves with the rule book.

So I guess that's admittance that they cheated knowingly, because the rule book they say they are familiar with says it's illegal.

Maybe Brady will come down with a sudden cold and tell us how he's hurt by all these accusations of cheating..,

I've been saying this for weeks. What they did against the Ravens was way more egregious than this. While one may argue the Colts game was out of hand, this was in the Ravebs favor by 14 and Brady was looking sub-par and average. I'm sure this also allowed for confusion on the next drive as well when the Pats got the flea flicker wide open.

The Dez catch over-shadowed all this, but the Ravens were extremely PO'd. Dungy himself came out and said they've been employing this for awhile and its cheap and dirty.

As an aside, Suggs made an off comment about how Lynch is criticized for how he handles the media for his dry, monotone answers, but BB gets a pass. I bet they also may have leaked stuff about deflated balls. The Ravens hate them.

And its just one more reason to have such disdain for the Pats. There is a myriad of reasons and they just keep giving more and more.

I cant think of another team in sports that is or has been less respected for having success than the Cheatriots. And Im sure the things we are aware of is only a drop ion the bucket compared to all the other stuff they do that we dont know about.

What makes it even more comical is when the Pats started doing this even I said, aren't the refs suppose to at minimum let the Ravebs defense know the Patriots have declared an ineligible receiver. (I mean why do refs even announce on microphone that a team has declared a receiver eligible or ineligible if it's all irrelevant to actual rules.)

And then during that stretch of mass confusion by the Ravens not even knowing that a receiver was ineligible and they didn't have anywhere close to enough time to adjust because the Pats kept snapping the ball in essentially hurry up, Harbaugh has to come on the field purposely to get a flag to make the refs aware of the tactic.

Yet, they continue and the Pats score on this TD. So how is it the refs can plead not being aware when Jim Harbaugh specifically is calling them out and yelling at the refs before the TD happens?

The only reason people hate the Patriots is because they win. If people really cared about cheating and competitive balance, then they would show outrage at other things that happened this year such as the Jets illegally tampering with Revis, Vikings illegally heating balls on the sidelines or the Browns illegally texting during games down to the sidelines.

No one cares about cheating when it is anyone else but the Patriots. But when the Patriots get accused of something, people lose their minds. And why is that? Because the Patriots are the best team in football the past 15 years or so. Jealousy breeds contempt. You would think Cowboys fans, of all people, would understand that fact.

.

Makes me really appreciate the disdain most opposing fans have for Dallas. Had for Dallas in the 90s.

The disdain was simply because we were a slow train coming that would eventually blow by you. Clean and simple.

Exactly. People hate successful teams. We all do it. Through the years, people hate Dallas and Pittsburgh and San Francisco and New England. I hate Pittsburgh more than I do any of our own division rivals.

No one hates Jacksonville.

Just another reason to think the league panders to the Pats or that the commish is in Krafty's back pocket. Its all perception, but with the Pats there are legitimate reasons to have the perception. Its more than just "blind hatred" like the Patsie homers whine about. You listen to them and they play the victim card. Its comical. I mean how can you not laugh at a group that gets preferential treatment and then whines about it and says they are victimized unfairly?

And then you have Goodell making his address today and he keeps a straight face talking about maintaining the integrity of the league. You just cant make this stuff up. :lmao2:

And if you're a normal hater of Pissburg that hate is fueled even more by all the breaks they have gotten over the years and stuff like the horrendous officiating in the Super Bowl against Seattle.
