News: NFL: Stephen Jones: Weeden should throw downfield more

Then why in the blue hell is he on the football team??

This is the question I've been asking since the team traded for Cassel. If you have so little faith in Weeden, why didn't they just get someone better in March?

Brandon should do whatever the coaches ask him to do. For better or for worse, if all he can do is check it down then check it down. Should have thought about that well before now. Gotta go with whatever he can do at this point. If that's not good enough for the Jones family then they should take it up with Jason.

First Jerry and now Stephen.. both these guys should stop talking, that kind of stuff is said in closed doors to the coaches....don't be surprised if weeden chucks it up for grabs a few times because he quote on quote has to throw down field more. Added pressure for the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, America's team, on national t.v... that checks out.

Just do it once or twice to keep the defense honest. Doesn't mean you need to chuck it the entire game. We should have taken a couple shots down the field against the Falcons to back them up.

The fact we didn't solidifies how I feel about Weeden and makes me question Linehan.

I'm not a Weeden guy, but there's no excuse not to force him to go deep at least a couple times. A high school coach would have demanded that.

I'm not expecting Weeden to man an extensive aerial attack or anything of the kind but an occasional downfield throw should at least help to keep the NO defense honest. Really hoping to see C-Mike contribute as well.

Drew Brees is said to be ready and throwing well w/zip on his passes, so let's not expect to see a cakewalk or anything or the sort. This game may be more of a challenge than some of us might expect. Here's hoping we'll come out of it with a "W" anyhow, though.

I suspect that 'Weeds' may be on a shorter leash than many of us suspect. There a ways to go before Romo returns and I won't be too surprised to see Cassel taking the reins at some point. Anyhow, go get 'em, Boys!

The coaches probably didn't let him throw down field because they know he can't. Look for the turnovers to start now.

They have already started.

I think Stephen wants him to attempt passes down field and not just check down city, I am sure he does not want him to throw careless picks like the one in the first half of the Atlanta game.

If he can not do so, next man up.

Weeden will not get a better chance to burn corners in coming weeks than tonight, so hopefully he makes the best of it!
