NFL teams made more money but only because current contract not affected by ratings decline yet

They don't get enough. They risk their lives. Firefighters should get more than what they get. Teachers should get more than what they get. I'd put players there too. To fans like you you don't take into account how much they are damaging their bodies and their brains all in favor of OUR entertainment.

In comparison to NBA players they are getting robbed. A third tier player in the NBA will sign a 4 year 150 million dollar a year deal. A First tier in the NFL that isn't a quarterback? 4 years 60 million. And that's in the most profitable sport in the country and also the most violent. But because the "common man" gets 10 dollars a hour that means NFL players get too much money lol.

These arguments always kill me when the "common man" will side with the billionaire owner who robs their fans blind with overpriced tickets, crappy on the field product and and overpriced beer....all just to go against the athletes who are closer to being common man than those owners are lol.
Just this week, the NBA guaranteed contracts came up in a NFL discussion. This next CBA battle is shaping up to be more interesting than the game. They've already let the "S" word come up for the owners to think about.

The last CBA, concessions were made by both sides to keep the %'s where they were, I do not see that coming. Between the money and arbitrary rules being written without NFLPA agreement, this is going to get nasty.

Something tells me the Cowboys domain as the most valuable franchise in sports isn't going to be in danger anytime soon.

Also, so much for the NFL is failing. Despite TV ratings being down on TV overall, they're still bringing in that cash.

I asume you're talking about ratings decline of the big 4 networks. The NFL ratings are declining mainly for that reason, not because of the product.. That's why they just signed big contracts with Amazon Prime and the major streamers. It's the way of the future and the way to capture the under 35 crowd. Trust me, the number of folks who watch the big 4 are declining, even in my fam and i'm 60 ish. The only thing I watch with any regularity on the boob tube is the Cowboys and the Red Sox

But still dependent on the internet connection and that is not great in a lot of places.

Define high speed because the best I can get out of this cable provider is 24/2 and when the homes on the lake beside me are rented out, I have to change a band through the provider or it times out.

But I know as I write this, the nerds are working on something else to endanger TV and satellite in general and become billionaires.
With 24/2 I wouldn’t do streaming over a traditional setup.

Nobody is holding a gun to our head watching sports.

I don’t ever hear these arguments and complaints about actors , artist and musicians charging ridiculous amounts to view or attend their events ?

Sports is something everyone can relate to. They’ve played most of these sports at some level while they can’t sing, play an instrument or act. Lol

Plus the type of personalities sports is now entertaining bring many more social bigotries into the equation.

And most of all the average Joe are bitter realizing they made poor choices in their lives or at least had the opportunity to make better decisions and didn’t always make the sacrifices putting their best foot forward like most of these Athletes had to do getting where they are from where they came.

I'll bring my experience to the table. As a millennial in the age bracket that is cutting cable, I see the ups and downs. I enjoyed cable in an apartment it was included. Gf and I got it after we purchased a house too at their introductory rate. 2 years later agreement and rate ended, same package jumped from $170 per month to $240, no change in service. We promptly nixed it and kept fiber optic internet and Netflix. We currently pay $75 per month.
I stream all NFL games and sports games, in 720p and occasional loss of feed, but 3 clicks and it's back on.
Netflix and cables crappy model price-wise and package-wise are what led my gf and myself to do away with it, and our household made >$80k last year.

Actors and musicians don't charge you to go to their events lol. That's the venue or promotors who have to pay the artist or celebrity to attend that event.

Yep....and I have no idea how this will end. These players are wired differently now. I don't know if they will cave in or get what they feel they deserve.

*** NOTE ***

The title of the thread has been updated to better inform those who do not understand the contract situation the NFL has with TV networks.

Currently, the contract payments are pre-defined by the contracts and include escalator clauses that lead to an increase in the amount paid as the contract matures.

When the next contracts are negotiated, that's when you will see the decline in ratings affect the NFL's bottom line.

lol, oh really?

You changed the title to reflect your point of view, unless you have an invoice with the breakdown of how much of that revenue comes from escalating tv deals vs sponsorships, merch sales, licensing and relocation fees.

It's fine, but let's not pretend my title was less factual than yours.

Ok Buddy but that’s indirectly charging us.

Actually I have no agenda on this as I said. The original title made it sound like the ratings decline doesn't matter, and it does. It just doesn't affect the revenue contracts right now because those were locked in place before the decline started. I hope the NFL gets it worked out :D

I’ve never had lagging issues with legit streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) if you internet service is **** then I understand.
My internet is fine......you are lying if you say it never buffers or lags during live sports in HD

But my internet provider is also my cable provider so why would I stream when I have 55'' in HD

They were willing to "loss lead" when they outbid CBS for NFC games back in the day. Did that pay off enough to come back for a 2nd bite?

CBS and NBC paid an average of $45M per game. Fox is going to pay $60M. Extra game means nada when you talk averages.

Who cares who lost? The winner sets the market and as the market setter, Fox will be bidding to retain their Sunday games when that comes up too.

The sky is falling though. I get it. Lol. Hope against hope is what I call it.

I love the NFL and watch EVERY game.....but we are die hards....... the Joe Six Pack is walking away in noticeable numbers....that is not an attack on you personally......stop taking it that way

The NFL can still be first and also be stagnating.....it is quite common

IBM was the top computer company for a long time ...even when they were #1 they were at the being of the end and not the end of the beginning

NFL has a dozen serious issues affecting attendance and ratings

Frankly.....

It's because few humans can do what Le'Veon Bell does. Lots of people can do what the common man does.

Money reflects value. It's not a reward.

A reward for being born faster and stronger? We place too much value on athlete’s “skills”. Doesn’t it matter that Bell is an arrogant, ungrateful awesome person?

What's a 4-carat diamond worth. A lot. What if they were laying all over the ground for miles and miles. They'd be worth nothing.

Value in anything is directly related to its rarity. What somebody makes is directly proportionate to how hard they are to replace.

The truly overpaid are head coaches.

For some, its not about what they make, it's about who's making it. This is why I laugh when people show a disdain for a player with an agent from RocNation Sports, because naturally they evaluate sports agent firms on a day to day basis, lol.

Apparently not.. lol

NFL takes murderers , rapist , women beaters , convicted dog killers, sexual abusers, druggies and thugs of all kinds. If you’ve got talent and not in jail..there’s a place for you in NFL.

Wonder how “close” Le’Veon Bell feels to you and I! Fans like you can make excuses for them all day, but they ARE overpaid when compared to the common. OF COURSE the owners are arrogant, greedy *******s that take advantage and make 100X as much money, but the owners of McDonald’s are too, and they make 10,000X as much as THEIR employees.

Now your sounding like Jerry. I was with you until this last sentence.

HC in professional sports are possibly overpaid if they aren’t influencing the talent being assembled . But with a league based mostly on talent there is or should be a premium on who’s gathering it , sensing the teams priorities and an eye for those who fit into their schemes.

No one's taking anything personally. I'm disputing the idea that Joe Six Packs are walking away from the NFL specifically and that any claims that they are is essentially just foot-stamping drama queening. So people can talk about "all the people they know" who aren't watching all they want. I know human nature and what people's actual commitment levels are every time they're "outraged" over something. Again, this Fox deal in the midst of ratings talk could be evident of what's to come when the other deals are bid. It's certainly not evidence against, no matter how much you try to downplay it.
