Agreed...just not a fan of this idea.

I think it is more than just the time with the NFL...I think they are seeing another way to milk another day and some dollars out of the draft.

But still...I don't care for the idea because I don't think many people are going to want to stay up to 2-3 in the morning to see the first round.

Stick to what is working now OR...Make the first day (Saturday) just for the first 2 rounds and move rounds 3-7 on Sunday. Although I am sure people would rather it not be so long on sundays.

Just stick with what is working IMO. No need to change it up because of a record length first round this year or because the NFL wants to milk an extra day for money.

Right. Keep it the same. I for one, would not watch it on a Friday night. That's a night out on the town {pretty much like every night :D }.
I would TIVO it, and get up to watch it Saturday morning anyway. All the while TIVO the 2nd round also. FF through all the crap.

Fifteen minutes is not too long when the club must decide how it is going to spend millions of dollars based on last minute news, because only the club with the first pick is sure of who is going to be there to select -- or what other clubs will discuss trading with it. The others are left to guess until they get the news.

I agree that the time differences on the East and West coasts make it dicey, but ESPN could better use six hours on Friday than they do, in my opinion.

Hate the idea. The Draft is a weekend event not unlike the games themselves. Shorten the time per selection instead and move the start times later into the day to take advantage of primetime on Saturday and Sunday, if necessary. ABC/ESPN should allow the Draft to compete against 60 Minutes instead of Ghost Whisperer.

...then again, that might not be such a bad idea...

Well, if they do this, they will probably lose a lot of the younger audiance. Young people don't stay in on Friday nights even if it's raining 3 foot fire balls. Young people are going to go out to clubs etc. I don't really think they would gain much audiance here. JMO of course.

To be honest, I really don't like the idea very much. Typically, I take the wife out and do whatever she wants on the Friday prior to the Draft, just as a way of compensation for spending two days in front of the tube. They do this and I'm probably headed for divorce city. :laugh2:

Of course, this year, I was forced to work the whole weekend installing sprinklers and laying sod so I really didn't get a chance to watch anything except sweat poor off my head but hey, I guess that's the price you pay.

This is the kind of greed that had cost us daylight World Series games. Yes, I'm old enough to remember them (fondly). It's the same kind of greed that forces fans to file into frozen stadiums for 9:15 PM kickoffs in December. You wanna kill the golden goose, NFL? Then keep it up.

She may demand to get the Tivo included in the divorce settlement just out of spite. :)

I think they should keep it as is, because it is entertaining watching the teams scramble at the bottom of the first and the top of the second, as pick slip. That is where all the action is. Also I think it is good that teams have that extra time after round 3, although I could see maybe moving it to after round 2, because that's when the true discussions and differences in evaluation come into play.

My suggestion would be to make the first round 10 minutes and the second round 7 or 8 minutes and then give each team a 5 minute, time extension, floater to use. So if they need 15 minutes in the first round they can us it, but then they only have 7 or 8 minutes in the second rnd, or they can hold onto it and use it later if a trade presents itself and they need 5 more minutes to get the deal done.. I think it would add suspense wondering why a team just used their extra 5 minutes.. is it for a deal, etc?..

I imagine it will probably be the flat screen but you could be right. Probably not looking good for the home team in that deal.

Keep it as it is, the NFL owns Draft Weekend, the draft overshadows everything that day and they have viewership for 10 plus hours. Yes, BB Gun, I'm old enough to remember day WS Games too.
