I don't think I agree with this. If the 79 players ahead of him were better then him, then I would have no problem with this but I mean, there are guys on that list that were not better IMO. For example, if you say that he didn't have the stats to support a better position, the look at Gayle Sayers who is 26 on the list. He did not put up huge rushing numbers because his career was cut short but still, his numbers were not fantastic. I'm taking nothing away from the guy but if the reason given for 80 is due to his numbers, then why Sayers at 26?
Take a guy like Terry Bradshaw. Why is he ranked higher then Aikman? Is it because he won so many championships? Well, he only one 1 more then Troy. He played 2 years longer then Troy did and he threw for almost 5 thousand yards less. Troy was a 61.5 Lifetime completion % guy, Terry was 51.9. Terry did throw a lot more TDs, 212 to 165 but he also threw a lot more INTs, 210 to 141. The TD to INT ratio is much better for Troy and that's with Emmitt on the team.
Is Ray Lewis better then Troy? Dan Marino, Rod Woodson, Mike Singletary, LaDanian Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk, Paul Warfield, Mel Blount, I mean there are a lot of guys on this list that, beyond those I've pointed out, that I don't believe were better then Aikman.
I guess I'm a Homer.
