Wow. Even the Cowboys/Eagles couldn't save the NFL ratings. Still decent but when's the last time the WS outperformed the NFL?

I thought for sure football would come out in front. Especially with a Dallas team that is winning and a Philly team that is also winning. It just shows you how much interest there is with the Cubs. Very surprised though.

Stuff like the anthem issue means a lot to some casual fans. And people are really tired of the social issue lectures, the overblown marketing taking over, the rules, the commercials.....

And the product is bad because these guys almost never practice anymore. There's about 3-4 good teams. The rest are absolute crap.

According to Sports Media Watch, it’s the first time since 2011 the World Series beat “Sunday Night Football” in the ratings.

Yup. Even with friends who have no serious interest in baseball, they are watching just because of the drought/curse

The anthem issue is meaningless to the ratings and is just brought up by fans who don't agree with the issue

Ratings are down due to poor product and continued idiotic attempts by the NFL to play games in more and more days

This is a historic and very competitive WS and will have great ratings

Its become a flag happy league, and last nights officiating crew led the league in that and they did not disappoint, I was waiting for a flag after every play, especially after every punt, which had a lot to do with our players too. When the game is getting as long as a baseball game it becomes unwatchable.

No, it's far from meaningless. Report out on CBS that a survey on the rating showed the anthem thing as the #1 reason for many tuning out.

I have people at my work who have specifically stopped watching because of the anthem BS.

yeah, I think the lower ratings are from a cumulative effect of all the things you mentioned. Even for a hardcore fan, at some point the entertainment value just isn't there anymore, they've diluted the product and introduced horrible negatives in an effort to expand the market. For me, the worst offense is the number of commercials, it's insane. The Cowboys and Sooners are the only games I watch 'live' anymore...

The NFL "cared" about the anthem once they were getting paid to "care" about the anthem. Prior to 2009...the players were not even on the field during the signing of the national anthem. The fans IMPACTED by the anthem...are not "true" football fans.

My issue is how there seems to be an agenda at times to influence the outcome. I have never been more disappointed in the NFL...than I was when they tried to convince me that Dez did not catch the ball. And the scary part is...they tried to convince me that there was enough evidence to OVERTURN the call on the field! Ever since then...the "is it a catch....vs is it not a catch"...has turned into a complete debacle.

Also..the greed of the NFL leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't begrudge owners making money...but not having full time officials is just mind boggling to me....but I feel it is somewhat strategic...and I don't mean financially strategic.

It doesn't sit well with most military families at all. A bunch of uneducated, coddled millionaires who think they understand anything about anything.

Just play football like the blockhead you are, and shut up.

I agree. If that was not an elimination game I think NFL wins. Nation turning its lonely eyes to Cubs' dream of lifting the curse.

Last night's game had no flow to it at all with all of the penalties. If I weren't a fan of the Cowboys, I could understand the thought of not watching it.
