Why be concerned with what the Eagles do as the season enters the second half?
If they lose a game - be it before the Xmas Eve game v. Cowboys - or - Dallas hands them that first defeat - or it occurs in the two games afterwards- does it really bode better for them to try to win the NFL title with two or one losses instead of being undefeated during the regular season?

There is a first time for everything. The past does not predict the future. The Eagles could be the 1972 Dolphins for all we know.

The Cowboy just how to go out and beat them.

Yeah it does. You just don’t grasp it.

Are the Cowboys undefeated? How does the Eagles being 8-0 have any business being in the Cowboys fan zone forum. Doesn’t it belong in the “ Rest of the NFL” forum

oh, I grasp it……it’s just irrelevant and immaterial to my team and in the Fan Zone

So, since 2000 only one team that was the last undefeated team during each season has gone on to win the Super Bowl. The Colts did it and it wasn’t even their best team that accomplished it. It’s hard to believe that only one team has pulled this off in over 20 years. This does not bode well for the Eagles.
Fingers crossed!

That's because it doesn't mean much, especially for all those 6-0 or 7-0 teams. A team with zero losses isn't necessarily better than other teams with 1 or even 2 losses, especially midway through the season. There's a ton of variance in schedule difficulty as well, when you're talking about just the first 6 or 8 games. And a lot can happen, primarily injury-wise, in the second half of the season.

You're still talking about one team against the field. Maybe you'd expect a couple of these teams to have won the SB vs. just one, but it's not all that anomalous.

The Colts were undefeated? and won the SB? Im confused...

They’re talking about the last remaining undefeated team during the regular season. Currently the Eagles are the only undefeated team. The 72 Dolphins and 2007 Pats are the only teams to go undefeated throughout the entire regular season. The 72 Dolphins went the entire regular season and playoffs undefeated, winning the Super Bowl. The 2007 Patriots lost in the Super Bowl.

Pretty simple explanation why these teams typically don't make it to the super bowl....

Usually the last team to remain undefeated has an easier schedule.

It's evident that losing tough games against playoff competition in the regular season is better than not playing them at all.

That’s not true. Usually what happens to these teams is the pressure of staying undefeated finally gets to them. Once they lose it takes some of the wind out of their sails and they never regain the form they had while they were unbeaten. When you get to the playoffs your regular season record goes out the window and it’s a new season. Being undefeated with 9 games left really doesn’t mean much. I think Philly will lose at least two regular season games.

....and this thread is about as useful as an empty toilet paper role.
They are not useless. You can use them to piss people off real quick. You can mail them to a neighbor. You can give them a way to kids on Halloween. You can take it to school and throw it on the teacher's desk. You can whip it out and sit it on the table when you're eating with your in-laws. You can throw it into a cop's car if he has his windows down. See not useless at all.

Note; Oz it's not responsible for any property damage or any injuries you may receive from doing any of these crazy arse acts. That s***'s on you.

Quiet a few of those teams won 10 or more before losing. I just think it’s strange for only one of those teams out of 20+ to go on and win the Super Bowl. Obviously when you win that many games before losing, you’re a pretty good team.

My theory as to why teams that start hot have a very hard time winning the SB is this- the season is too long and the competition too close to maintain that level of dominance. The teams that win SBs the last two decades tend to be the ones who peak at the right time.

Evidence of my point:
  • 2021 Rams- were 6-4 after 10 games, then got hot all the way to the SB even though they did not have the coveted #1 seed.
  • 2020 Bucs- were 7-5 after 12 games, did not win their division but were hot at the end of the season and it carried them all the way to a Lombardi.
  • 2019 chiefs- were 6-4 after 10 games. Mahomes was only in his 3rd season and was still figuring out some things. Like the previous two teams, they got hot at the right time.
  • 2018 Pats- were 9-5 in early December that year and finished as the AFC’s #2 seed. But they won their last 5 games all the way to their last SB win.
This could go on….point is, the team that gets hot when it matters most is almost always the SB champ.

There's a lot to be said about that.

Some players say that momentum isn't a real thing, but I disagree. I think momentum largely makes good teams great. Like you say, when you lost that momentum, its hard to recapture.

Playing with the confidence that 'everything will work out if I do my job' is big.

Making the playoffs is all that matters, what your record is doing so means squat. Every year we see a team that wins 13, 14 or more games get bumped in the 1st round. And I have seen a 9-7 Giants team win the Super Bowl. Heck, even the 2021 AFC Champion Bengals were "just" 10-7 in the regular season.

So no, I'm not worried about the undefeated Eagles getting fat on the Jaguars, Cardinals, and Texans right now.
