NFLDraftShark-based mock draft

That’s a lot of DT’s now on the roster with Gally and Hill too. I don’t see it.

Not convinced Hill will make the roster if we improve who is ahead of him.

Even with him, we could keep up to 10 DL: Barmore, Shelvin, Gallimore, McNeil, Woods, Hill, Lawrence, Gregory, Anae and Armstrong. And with the DTs I have us drafting, both Hill and Woods could be out the door as we upgrade their spots. We could even keep Aldon Smith and cut those two and only be at nine.

LB needs help but there is no way LB is the biggest need on defense when we have complete holes at S, CB and lack talent at DT.

That's not to say you don't take a LB early. If your pick at 10 comes and the Cowboys have Parsons as their top player on the board there, you take him. If they trade back into the late teens or early 20s and JOK or Collins are the best players on your board, take them.

But LB is not nearly a need like say CB. A lot could also change in FA, granted I doubt we will be all that active.

Yeah, it really depends on how the board lines out. One reason I did this mock is because we really don't know who is going to be where on the Cowboys' board.

Obviously, we don't want them reaching for the 20th player with the 10th pick. If they want to trade down and get that player that's fine. But if let's say a player like Farley is the top-rated player on their board at 10. If they stay at 10, then they should take Farley.

My belief is simply that teams are going to have Barmore rated higher than the draft experts do. He's clearly got pass rush ability as a 310-pound DT and that's highly valued.

Looking back at the 10th pick the last few years, it doesn't take long to find one that was lower-ranked by draft experts than where he ended up being taken. Pittsburgh actually traded up to 10th in 2019 to select linebacker Devin Bush, who cbssports top 150 had as the 30th-ranked player. Not saying the Steelers were right in their assessment, but they clearly believed Bush was worthy of that pick, trading a first, second and 2020 third to move up and take him. (Other boards I looked at had him at 15, 18, 24 and 22; one had him at 10 and another at 9, though.)
