This should be interesting. That means a possible "reach" for players like Lawrence and Marcus Smith. They are true "edge rushers". I think Crichton also is in that mix.
How would everyone feel that instead of taking Kony Ealy at #16 (who I do not qualify as an edge player) and taking Lawerence at that spot instead?
I like Lawrence better. But both would suck at #16. I'm actually a believer in Ealy long-term, and think Marinelli would turn him into a player... but he's nauseating on film right now. Minimal immediate impact.
I do not like ford. 5 years player in college but only produced 1 year. He is weak vs the run and setting the edge.Only edge rushers I am OK with in the first are Barr, Ford and possibly Lawrence.
I would be careful choosing players hoping Marinelli turns water into wine. In the event things go south, he is not necessarily even going to be around in the future to work with a project.
Our best bet is to choose players that are as "safe" as you can reasonably project. If Ealy looks that weak on film, move along to another prospect.

I would be very disappointed if we took Lawerence at 16. The guy looks slow as molasses.
I could easily see it especially the way Seattle shut down Manning in the super bowl with a strong pass rush. Last year it was offensive lineman. As soon as those first couple get picked teams could panic and start reaching. We usually try to go into the draft with no glaring needs but unless you're counting on Mincey or Crawford to replace Ware we really need a WDE. That could make us have to reach for a player instead of being able to draft value.
