Sometimes I wonder if some of you all ever watch pro football. There is so much more to being a RB at THIS level than how fast you run. The mental grind is tremendous. The physical grind is tremendous. Being able to pick up the blitz is tremendous. Getting your body ready to play week after week is tremendous. And at this level...you are not twice the size of the guys trying to tackle. I'm not saying DeMarco Murray was the second coming of Emmit Smith....but I do not we thought enough of him to give him 500 touches last year...and I will watch with great interest what rookie they plan to deploy...that can step in...and deliver...with what little time we have left with Romo!

I keep hearing that. Why don't you call Jerry. lol

You laugh. I laugh. But it is dificult for me to understand how, when your RB leads the NFL in rushing that suddenly we pretend that we can just reload the way the Pats magically do it.
If it aint broke, don't jinx it.
If we dont half monies, don't lavish monies on a QB (too late) or a "promising" WR.
I firmly believe that super bowl are not won by high talent level at ever position -- SBs are won by a key players in each unit: line, QB (key) and backfield
with the Defense: a monster in the secondary, same in the linebackers' corps and a punishing, active DE.

Oh, well, just plug in Randle or any journeymans. we'll get by. yeah right (in mein indignant tone)

Not in favor of bringing in AP. If we are being so frugal with Murray, why would we then turn around and bring in AP for more money ? Would think if we could get Hardy (or someone to at least start at LDE) and draft a DE in first, I'm still in on the OO deal. Then pick up a runner in the second or third round. T.Coleman, Ajayi, The dude out of Minnesota ... would absolutely love Gurley, but don't want to use our first on a RB. Platoon someone with Williams maybe ?
We have so many holes, I'm surprised we haven't done anything. But maybe we can pick up a corner - but free agent corners are frickin expensive. The cupboard is getting bare ... Will be a very interesting draft for sure !

I want an intimidating running back like Demarco. People talk about our Oline, but Demarco is physical. That's why we went into Seattle and won.

I agree. DM set the tone. Created a smash-mouth kind of Identity.

I just hope the new dynamic/chemistry mix well..

I hope this OLINE is as good as we think it is..... I would rather have Tyrone, or Fredbeard or Martin over DM.

If he signs with Chippy, which it looks like he will......I guess I have to change profile pics....

First off, Bellichick almost lost his job before Brady stood up and saved his job from 'nowhere.'

Since then, New England has exploited opponent weaknesses ever since. Might work for Dallas as well.

Now Dallas is a running team with no running back. I guess they have the number to 1-800-RB and hope like hell they can find a guy who can produce as a runner, blocker and receiver

You don't think Peterson could be an improvement, CC? Frankly, my preference is to draft Gurley, but if we could get Peterson on a 2-year deal, I'd feel pretty good about the position.

From my view, Peterson out classes Murray for this and next season. I would be well pleased, but his value is higher than that of DeMarco. I just don't think there is that lever to use...

but I would gladly accept that potential upgrade and start my accumulated yardage meter clicking.

Tony Romo is on a time line now, and I so wish that be maximized.

I don't want to go scheme and plug in lesser talent via a Free Agent. I would prefer one of the top two running backs going into this year's draft and hope they again fall down the draft for this year.

If you say Gurley, I am all ears...

I don't think that overpay for AP is the answer, go to the basics and draft a RB in this upcoming draft, spend the money on defense. Cut Randle or Dumbar and promote Ryan Williams.

I might be a lone voice, but I'd like to get AD on a two year deal AND draft Gurley at 27, or, if he's gone, Coleman at 60. That would solidify the RB position for years to come. Gurley is a special back and I would love to see him wear the star. Coleman is similar to Murray, which means he is very good with an all-around skill set. I still believe Peterson, at 30, is the best back in the NFL and he would have a huge season in Dallas with the Cowboys O-line and passing game. IMO, Gurley will likely be gone by time the Cowboys are on the clock but if he is there you have to take him.

I've had a similar fantasy myself, about Peterson and Gurley. Not so much about Coleman. Not that I don't like him. I like him just fine (in fact there are a bunch of backs in this draft that I like just fine). Just that I don't see him being the stuff of fantasy in the same way that Peterson and Gurley are.

Breaking News:
Eagles will reportedly give DeMarco Murray a five-year, $42 million deal
What will the Dallas Cowboys do without DeMarco Murray?
By Frank Schwab 1 hour ago Shutdown Corner
Dallas Cowboys, apparently, stuck to their $5 million per year figure for DeMarco Murray.

That's fine, but their stance also means they won't have the player who was their MVP last year.

The Philadelphia Eagles came through with a deal that will average $8.4 million per season, according to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson. ESPN's Adam Schefter said the expected deal is five years worth $42 million with up to $21 million guaranteed ($18 million guaranteed for skill and injury reasons). Barring an incredible turn of events, Murray will be headed to Philadelphia?

"It was never about the money," Murray told ESPN.com's Todd Archer. "I could've taken that a long time ago. It's about winning a Super Bowl & being fair."

As good the Murray signing could be for the Eagles, it's a definite blow for the Cowboys, no matter how much Murray was paid.

The Cowboys built a NFC East championship team (and maybe it would have been more if not for the Dez Bryant non-catch call in Green Bay) around Murray. It might be an antiquated notion to have a tailback be a team's foundation, but the Cowboys did it well. Murray led the league in rushing. Tony Romo thrived with less pressure on his shoulders. The defense improved greatly, in part because the offense sustained drives with Murray and kept them from having to be on the field too much.

So assuming Murray's deal becomes official, what happens now with the Cowboys moving forward?

Expect a ton of Adrian Peterson rumors to start. While that seems like a Jerry Jones type of move, there are more than a few hurdles, not the least of which is that Peterson is still under contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Also, the Cowboys just proved they don't want to overpay a tailback. If the Cowboys can get Peterson without mortgaging their franchise, it makes sense. But let's put this in the "Chip Kelly is going to trade 20 draft picks for Marcus Mariota, I heard that from a friend of a cousin who works for an NFL team" bin for now and consider other options.

The Cowboys still have probably the best offensive line in football, so they don't necessarily need a Peterson or a Murray to have a successful running game. That's also not to say Joseph Randle or Lance Dunbar, Murray's backups, are ready to be the foundation of the Cowboys.

Free agency still has some interesting pieces. Ryan Mathews might be the collateral damage from the Eagles signing Murray; he had reportedly agreed to a deal but that was before the better option was available to Chip Kelly. He is a very talented back but rarely healthy. With Justin Forsett coming to an agreement to return to the Baltimore Ravens (via ESPN's Adam Schefter), C.J. Spiller, Stevan Ridley and Reggie Bush are among the top free-agent backs still available on Thursday afternoon. None of them have played at the level Murray did in 2014.

The draft has a few running backs, and there are many intriguing backs in this class. If Georgia's Todd Gurley isn't available when the Cowboys draft 27th overall (what a good fit that seems like, though he could be gone), then Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon should be. There will be value after the first round too. It'll just be tough to ask any rookie to come in and do what Murray did, carrying nearly 400 times and being a physical, drive-sustaining back like Murray was.

Perhaps the Cowboys will come up with some combination of a free agent and a rookie pick to replace Murray. But what Murray did for the 2014 Cowboys is unlikely to be replicated. It makes sense that the Cowboys didn't want to overpay Murray after he had so many touches last year. But it doesn't mean they also won't regret not bringing Murray back.

To improve at running back, the team will have to get a high placed running back via the draft.

Get Hardy and use either 1st or 2nd on a quality RB then we should be OK. Key is Defense next season and remain a RUN first team!

Wow! I did not know the great Jim Brown was posting on this board. I am truly honored.
