I can think of an almost endless list of superlatives to describe Emmitt but "elusive" wouldn't make my top 10. Yes he had his moments (see his Legendary Atlanta Run) but being elusive certainly wasn't his main style of running.

I would say that Emmitt is a COMPLETE back, however, I think his elusiveness was his main staple:
-longer career by avoid the big hits
-vision to evade the first tackler

Totally Agree. I wouldnt even call Tony elusive. He was fluid with a nasty 2nd (and 3rd) gear.

Gotta throw *Terry Metcalf into the mix somewhere. That dude made so many defenders look sick. Tony Dorsett was robbed here; of course he belongs on this list. Top 5 without a doubt.

*attn young whippersnappers- he played for the St Louis Cardinals in 70's.

What a stupid list.

Having two of the top running backs ever, and who have the most yards ever, NOT on the list (Payton and Smith) reeks of asininity.

Well Payton wasn't "elusive" and neither was Emmitt for that matter. Not the kind of "elusive" that guys like Barry Sanders and Joe Washington were.

On the Nosey.

Jim Brown isn't on the list and he's considered the best RB ever by many...but he wasn't elusive.

The only thing elusive about a Jim Brown run were the defenders trying to get the hell out of his way.

According to www.m-w.com:

Main Entry: elu·sive
Pronunciation: \ē-ˈlü-siv, -ˈlü-ziv\
Function: adjective
Date: 1719
: tending to elude: as a: tending to evade grasp or pursuit <elusive prey> b: hard to comprehend or define c: hard to isolate or identify

Both those guys fit that definition to me.

It's like Troy Aikman used to say about Emmitt when he said something along the lines of: 'They say Emmitt was too slow, or wasn't that fast, but rarely did I ever see him get caught from behind.'

Emmitt was extremely elusive, especially early in his career. He may not be amongst the 10 most elusive ever, but he should be in the conversation.

i'll never understand why if someone's favorite player doesn't make a list, it's a crap list.

Don't know a couple of those guys. But yeah not bad. Of course Emmitt was elusive and TD more so. But not the kind of elusiveness the author was obviously talking about.

Metcalf was elusive. Now it'll bug me until I think of some more of those squirt bugs.

I'll never understand people who make an invalid assumption due their lack of knowledge, then base their judgement off of it.
