Did anyone watch the 1993 story of the Boys on NFLNW last night? Man we were good. Sometimes you seem to forget how good we really were. Emmitt in the last game of the year with a seperated shoulder, 32 carries 172 yds, 10 catcheds for 62 yds! Are you freakin kiddin me? There aren't any running backs that could do that these days, not even LT. And I love Ware to death but, man did Haley looked super fast! Ahh the glory days! Hurry up draft.

And then people see the Patriots dominate in a watered down league and suddenly they are the best team ever.

Sorry Patsies but our 90's teams would run you out of the frickin stadium.

IMO the 2 best Superbowl dynasties ever are the 90's Cowboys and the 80's 49ers.

Had the Cowboys not been great in the 90's the 49ers would have about 8 trophies right now.

Yeah, I saw it. It was good to revist a lot of those memories. I have said, many times, I would take that team against any team, from any era. I just think that it was a perfect convergance between modern physical skills/size and the state of the Pro game. No cap, no FA, it really was the perfect time, IMO, for NFL football.

I saw it and i saw the 92 version too, in fact, i am making notes now, with Jimmy Johnson coaching, his style, etc. I am again going to make notes, and post them onto the board, one thing sticks out at me. Like they were lackdasial in one game, and Jimmy Johnson lit into them, the players like bill bates and emmitt smith said that they thought when jimmy johnson got through with them, instead of barely winning, the cowboys had lost by 40 points.

Even one time, when the great charles haley was late on a team meeting, J Johnson lit into him, Haley didnt like it, but thats what a great coach does, doesnt let players get away with things. Anyway, back to a lackdasial game, etc, i will post what i saw Jimmy do to change attitude of the team, not like when wade phillips contends well we were 13-3, and we did, which doenst make sense, really won first playoff game with the bye week. Heck, you cant win like that, making excuses, you have to see what you did wrong as a head coach, what the players did wrong, and change it.

Your remarks are encouraged.

Yeah we needed one of those meetings last year. When Jimmy tore into them after they beat Minnesota, and they won the game. We could have used that at the end of the season when we started to get the big head, again! But if you think about it Parcells couldn't get them motivated the year before either. It must be the "Me Generation"!

No, it's the way the NFL works now. Today, you can't get away with the stuff you could then. You can't look at Julius Jones and tell him, "You fumble that ball again and your cut." Then up and cut him the way Jimmy did to Swirven Curvin Richards. The Union, the agent and the cap would be all over you. Today, players don't have the same fear they did then because they are protected from it. In those days, a Coach had much more power to create that fear in players. In those days, you could sit a talented player unitl he figured it out. There were things you could do. Today, you can't do that. You can't threaten a player with anything because they because they make so much money that they can afford to wait you out. If they get released, that's just another opportunity for them to get a signing bonus. Just not the same league.

So what you are saying ABQ is that the NFL has turned into the NBA? Where the players hold all of the cards and the coaches are just glorified baby sitters with no power to motivate anybody unless it involves a check. "Me Generation".

I saw that, too.

I liked this team more than the 1992 team. The 1993 team had to go through so much adversity. No Emmitt, an 0-2 start. Troy goes down and Bernie Kosar steps in and keeps the Cowboys close. They have to go to New York the last game of the season and beat the Giants in overtime with Emmitt and his separated shoulder in order to get the division and home field advantage. Beating the Packers is always nice. Beating the heck out of San Francisco at home was glorious.

And finally, topping that off with 24-unanswered points in the Super Bowl. And while all this was happening there was the constant struggle between Jimmy and Jerry. That was a pretty amazing team if you ask me. Probably my favorite Cowboys team. Until watching that last night I had no idea what they went through.

That's where it's going IMO. This is why I'm not overly upset to see that the collective bargining agreement might not be around for too much longer. A post player in the NBA is probably going to see more physical play then a QB would in the NFL, as it is. I think the money needs to be redefined a little bit. Too many young players making too much money too soon. No motivation to really get to work if your not making the grade.

I saw an interview with Tom Landry not so long ago and he mentioned this. He said that once upon a time, Vets made the money and Rookies payed there dues. A young guy in St. Louis might rush for 1500 yards and an older Vet in Buffalo might put up simular numbers. The Vet might get an increase for his production while the Younger back may get nothing. If the younger back came to management and complained about this, etc., so what. It was an understood thing. The Vet had been doing this for several seasons. He had paid his dues. The younger guy had not. In time, with sustained production and effort, he too would get paid but not before the older guys did and not at the expense of the Vets. Makes no sense to pay a guy who has not played a down of football in the NFL 35 Million bucks, guaranted.

ABQCowboy, i understand what your saying about new league style of players, but i disagree with you about not being able to cut players, you still can, heck, even jerry jones can walk in and cut a player, he pays them, its just like on a job, if you dont do the job, your not going to be on the team.

if you look at last year, players were being cut in the season, and players being picked up, like the giants picking up the fullback from the rams, and he turned into a steal, etc, i do agree you cant get away with threatening players, like jimmy johnson did, most likely but there are ways you can send a message to the team, get their attention.

this is what is needed for this team in december, send that message, and get players that know how to win in december and show the team, kinda like when the cowboys got everitt safety from pittsburgh and traded for charles haley too.

just like in late 1960's when the cowboys couldnt win the big one, then in 1970 they got mike dikta, herb adderly whom told the players i am going to show you guys what it takes to win the big one, and they got lance alworth, star wr, thats where i see this team,

kick the players rear end in december, get them motivated, heck, no more no pads in december in drills, thats right, the cowboys didnt practice in pads at all in december, you cant keep your focus, its jut like jimmy johnson said, if you dont have stamina, and work out, get used to being hit and hit back, then fatigue will make cowards of you, that showed to a large degree to me, with our offensive line in the playoff loss to the giants,

even nate newton said, to him what he saw in that game, the offensive linemen didnt do their cardivacular work one hour a day during and after that bye week, to me, thats what is needed players that have heart and desire and hate to lose, and a coach that doesnt sit on a 13-3 record, and say, well, we won a playoff game by winning the title, and sit on that,

thats not how you win ballgames, youve got to send a message to the team, now to me, if that means that Jerry Jones is going to have to kick wade phillips butt in december, then do it, whatever it takes, if it takes the media getting on his butt and making him defensive when he loses a ball game in december for a lackdaisal attitude, then do whatever changes that attitude with wade phillips, in turn that will change the attitude of the cowboy players themselves,

Jimmy Johnson hated to lose, so should wade phillips,

I think epeople do not realize how good the Bills, 49ers, and Packers teams that we beat to win those titles were.

I think any of the 3 of them are better than the teams today.

I love the America's Game series. Seen close to thirty episodes and can honestly say I've enjoyed each one.

The player/coach interviews are fantastic. Obviously enjoyed all 5 Cowboy episodes with 1992 topping the list. Aikman, Irvin, and Norton were great. Loved Norton's take on what "How Bout Dem Cowboys" really meant.

Was really surprised how much I enjoyed some of the other episodes. 1983 Raiders with Todd Christiansen and 1967 Packers with Jerry Krammer were definetely worth watching.

I do too.

I said this past season when the media was talking about the Pats being the best ever that they would barely be in the top 5 in the 90's, behind Dallas, SF, GB and Buffalo.

Jimmy tore into the team after a loss in Washington. I remember Irvin said that everyone was quite on the plane ride home.

There's not a doubt in my mind about that. Buffalo was better than any Super Bowl team I've seen since basically the back to back Broncos teams. Since that time the teams look very watered down. It must be hard for some to grasp that given a nearly 19-0 season, but it's just the truth.
