Typically, you don’t chase off Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells and live to tell about it. That’s especially true if you’re an oilman who has convinced yourself you’re a personnel director. And yet, here we are, with Jerry Jones enjoying a late-career renaissance that was, frankly, impossible to see coming. Tired of strong-willed future Hall-of-Famers, Jones installed lemonade salesman Jason Garrett at head coach. Instead of failing miserably, the seeming marriage of convenience has gradually grown stronger, organically producing an identity in the process. Spend big on assistant coaches. Draft hog mollies. Run the ball. Bend but don’t break on defense. The result has been two 12-win seasons in three years, the second of which came with a fourth-round rookie at quarterback. Maybe it’s luck. Maybe it’s supernatural. Whatever it is, it’s working, and after two decades of deserved criticism ol’ Jer has earned some plaudits.

Rick Smith at number 9 is laughable. Almost as funny as calling Bill O'Brien one of the nfl's best coaches. He has never won more than 9 games as a head coach. If that divison didn't suck so bad, he would have already been fired and I am sure he is gone after this year regardless.

Jerry has Stephen and Will to thank for his recent "upswing"........he gets the deceptive credit because he holds the title, anyone that believes that after 3 decades Jerry finally "gets it" is only fooling themselves.

you can voice this truth all day long but many have decided that JJones ran off Purcell and JJohnson and refuse to hear.

I would have put the Raiders GM up a lot higher.

And most of the GM's were - or so it looks like to me - graded on many years past signings.

And Jerry Reese - should be about 30.
With that much $$$$ spent in free agency they should have done better.

Yup, Parcells realized his personnel choices failed. He could not draft an offensive lineman to save his life. He wanted to pass on Ware but was overruled. He gutted a pretty good 4-3 defense for an average 3-4 defense. Then the topper was Bobby Carpenter. He spent several years building an average team. He took a good look in the mirror and decided to pack it in.

I questioned Ron Wolf making it into the HOF two years ago based on his teams only winning 1 Superbowl, however, when you look at the success of his proteges in the league you can see why he was well respected.

Jerry is the worst GM in sports and one if the worst owners because his ownership is the ONLY reason delusional and incompetent GM Jerry cannot be fired and why this franchise has had a high school level HC the last 6 years

Before you come back with your usual pro Jerry homer stuff, name me an NFL franchise that would hire Jerry as GM, as GM, if we were to fire him today

If you can't, and I know you can't, then please at least accept to yourself what you can't bring yourself to acknowledge publicly, that Jerry is a horrible GM and us the main reason for our mediocrity the last 20 years
