NFL's Peterson may retire, try out for Olympics, ESPN reports

By Brendan O'Brien

(Reuters) - Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson, facing suspension from the National Football League for the rest of the season after being charged with beating his son, said on Saturday he was considering retirement from professional football.

Peterson, who said he may attempt to compete in track in the Olympics if he retires, discussed his future in an interview with ESPN after an arbitrator denied Peterson's appeal of his suspension until at least April for violating league policy.

Peterson told ESPN reporter Ben Goessling that he would file a lawsuit against the NFL and, if the suit jeopardizes his reinstatement, he may retire.

"I love playing football, don't get me wrong, but this situation is deeper than that. For me, it's like, 'Why should I continue to be a part of an organization or a business that handles players the way they do?'" he told ESPN.

I saw this earlier. I believe he is just talking out of anger being upset about how this whole thing is going down. He won't be following up on this once they let him come back for the beginning of next year

Short-term, I get it, he's angry. Still, he needs to let the players union fight this battle.

Long-term, he should be quiet and wait for the April 15th reinstatement.

I doubt very seriously he won't be playing football next year. Superstar athletes get their way a lot and some have never experienced being told "no". He is just mad right now and wants to take his ball and go home.

Petersons throwing a pity party and everyone is invited. No sympathy for this guy but I still think Vick is a lot worse. Really hope he doesn't end up a Cowboy.

He is just mad right now.............once he figures out how many millions he would be losing by retiring I think he will change his mind.

He's kidding himself in thinking that he's going to compete with olympians.

I would imagine that once the dust settles, the allure of the game and the smell of dollar signs will bring him back to the league and quite possibly with this team.

hundred dollar body, ten cent head.

Ten cent head helped him become the best back in the NFL.

I don't care what these guys do off the field, honestly. This is the TMZ and social media era we live in now that brings this all to light. But it's been happening forever. If a player can help dallas win, I'm for it. Doesn't affect me. I want to see dallas win rather than make a futile stand against these type of people. If dallas doesn't take him, another team will.
