Heard this today and could not agree more.

He used Matt Ryan as the line, and said if a qb is above that line, you can pay him bucks... the Rodgers, Brady, Rivers type QBs.

If the QB is below that line, you can not pay the guy like he is a superstar qb... if you pay a below Matt Ryan QB like he is Brady, you are screwed.

Said he would let Dak play next year for his 700 k deal and see what happens and if you need to Franchise him with the non exclusive tag, which would mean if anyone signs him away from you, they have to give up 2 number 1 picks.... and as Carter said, nobody is gonna give up that for Dak.

This was good stuff and i agree 100% As he said, if better than Ryan, pay him. If he is not better than Ryan, you got to be prepared to walk away.

Jerry and Stephen already said they are going to give Dak a new contract by season's end, not by the end of 2019 or 2020.

How much is Matt Ryan getting paid per year?

#1 - we don't know what the contract extension will be so its way premature to say if its an overpayment.

#2 - the 2019 Salary cap will around 190 Million, so even a 20 Million dollar contract is equal to about 12 Million for when some of those QB deals were signed on a percentage basis.

#3 - QB is one of the few positions that can lose a game (or many of them) all by themselves. Go watch the game Mark Sanchez started for the Commanders before you say things like "Just walk away from your starter". You could also go rewatch Cooper Rush in this preseason when he was facing starting caliber players.

#4 - The main issue with Dak is that he plays much better when his OL is healthy and it will be next season. Even this year he has improved at throwing under pressure. You absolutely have to get Frederick back and Tyron & Martin healthy before you make decisions that can wreck your franchise for a decade like "walking away" from your starting QB without a replacement on board.

did you not see the part where he said you pay him NEXT year at the 700 kon this contract? and then Franchise him the following year with the non exclusive tag. That means you would have him for the 19 and 20 season before you walked away.... and you only walked away if you felt he wasnt worth paying... but that is 2 mor full seasons. Im pretty sure youd know if you wanted to keep him by then.

I'm just wondering what more we need to see. He ain't getting top 5 QB money. I don't think he's sniffing Matt Ryan salary numbers and I would think both the Cowboys and Dak are well aware of that. Someone with his work ethic is going to continue to improve even if he never is a top tier QB. As long as continues to step up in crunch time and high pressure situations, well, we can live with that.

This is useless, just like this thread, since Jerry and Stephen already said they will be giving Dak a new contract by this season's end.

And why do that? The Franchise Tag next year will be close to 30 Million, so you are pay 31MM over two seasons anyway and just adding a ton of drama around your starting QB - who is one of the leaders of the team. There are much better ways to structure an extension that costs you about the same cap space (with more cash up front) that accomplishes the same thing without all the drama.

Using your ogic, every thread on this board is useless, because none of what any of us say means a damn thing. Next person to bash JG .. close it down. Its useless because Jerry isnt gonna listen to us here.

Let's be honest, Dak is getting an extension. There is no need to add any drama to this situation by dragging it out. Also, being the starting QB of the Cowboys is a magnet for high dollar endorsement deals so I'm sure Dak is well exceeding his current football paycheck through his endorsements. I'm sure Jerry and Dak will come to an agreement that is team friendly so that the wealth can be spread out to a great extent and retain more talent.

Why does everybody assume that we're going to pay Dak, elite/superstar type money? We give Jerry a lot of grief and rightfully so in many cases, but even if he is slow to learn, it does look like he is learning what we shouldn't do when it comes to contracts. I would guess it would be a mid-level contract that does give us some options in a couple years. I believe Dak understands how important and beneficial the support that Jerry gives and that he might not get in other places. More importantly, at least for Dak, how lucrative endorsement deals can be for the QB of America's Team. Another team may be willing to pay him more, but doesn't mean he would make more money. I don't see Matt Ryan's face all over the place doing endorsements.

I highly doubt they give him a new contract unless the Cowboys make it to the NFC championship or win a SB. It all depends on how things go from here on out because Dak isnt bad but he isnt great either. If Dallas loses in the first or second round of the playoffs and Zeke is unable to run the ball and Dak goes 15 - 30 for 150 yards I dont see him getting that contract.

Romo won diddly, yet he got 2 new contracts.

Romo showed more physical talent than Dak. Only Parcells and fans like me knew you couldnt coach the glitch out of him. And Im telling you that Dak needs too many pro bowl caliber players around him just to make this team competitive. This team will lose a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball if Dak gets more than 15 mil a year.
