Nick Eatman apparently thinks this will keep players from playing hurt now

Go check out his article on DC.com..................he thinks Ware was judged unfairly because he played hurt and that the team releasing him is going to send a message to all the players that they should not suit up if not 100%.

Do you guys buy this? Are players that maybe sucked it up and played with minor injuries in the past going to just say "F this, I am not playing if not 100%".

I find this argument hard to believe......................sounds like Nick is just pissed Ware got cut.

Would only really apply to guys who can't survive a down year playing at 75% because of their cap number.

At least playing full strength for a few less games will either tell you to hang em up or allow you to audition for other teams.

Playing through injuies didn't cost ware his job. Being injured did. And the 16 mil didn't help lol. If ware sat out 4 or 5 games in 2012 and a additional 3 or 4 in 2013 it still would have ended up with him being cut. That would mean he would have missed about 10 games the past 2 seasons and I don't think his overall production would have been any better. So in the end we would still be looking at a player who prosuction dropped off the past 2 seasons and couldn't stay healthy. Only difference he would have missed more games. Which actually would be more of a reason to cut. Im

Ware should NOT have bee playing the last few games of 2012. Very clear now. And that frankly was on the staff who should have sat him. He was not effective and playing someone that injured to me is an indictment of Ryan, Red Ball and Jerruh.

Now whether that had long term implications is another story. Hard to tell but it does make you wonder.

Eatman sounded like he was gonna cry on the DC website after they cut Ware. Talk about fandom....he would be cut easier and probably have less suitors if he had a history of missing more games.

I wouldn't be surprised.

I've seen Cowboys quit on their coaches. The mindset is different than it was long ago when I am guessing a. Bob Lilly or Randy White would never consider doing that.

Let me ask this question ..... The Cowboys come to you and want to move money into the future, so that a lot of your money is back-ended in your contract.

Do you agree to that now?

That's one place where this hurts.

That's why I've been saying this is bad business.

It was never about performance. Bandwagon fans and the media had been treating Ware like Erick Dampier for some time now; he was a financial tool and not a football player. Ware could have had 20 sacks last year and you could have still raised the same talking points about paying that much to one guy on a historically bad defense. Ware having a down season just makes it easier to sell.

The Cowboys only want the cap hit back ended. That's why they guarantee a chunk of the cash instead. That's what the players care about. The total contract value back ended or front loaded is purely for ego.

It depends on how the deal gets restructured. If most of next year's salary is simply being turned into a SB for technical (cap) reasons then sure.

If its the team promising to pay me a lot 3 or 4 years from now with no guarantees then no.

Players can and do play that 'hurt' game. However, there is one huge drawback to that. How did Brett Favre get his job? The starter got hurt and Favre was thrown in there. Favre did well and the hurt QB was out the door. In the NFL, there is no guarantee you get your job back. If someone steps up in your absence, you are gone. That is why Brett Favre never wanted to come out of the game for any reason.

In the NFL, pretty much everyone is hurt with something as the season grinds on.

That's just stupid. I'm pretty sure Jerry wouldn't have paid Demarcus $16 mil if he had been on the sidelines 4 games every year either. Age and time caught up to Ware, it's as simple as that. He's no where near a $16 million dollar player any more so it had to be done. Now why they couldn't reach an agreement on a pay cut? Who knows

If he was 28 years old he would still be here.

Eatman is way off on this one. If our players think that then they shouldn't be here.

Wrong. You are always blasting some form of fans or trying to spin things. How about we stick with reality. Ware had injuries hampering his game for two seasons. For 2 seasons his numbers were down. He is 32. We are in serious cap trouble. All of this added up to getting his money off the boos. Simple. If the guy had 20 sacks, he would have been considered well worth the price tag and a piece to improving the D. When your gimpy and have 6 sacks...not so much. Simple facts. Try them sometime.

People are totally dismissing the EGO of players. Living here in the DC area...I have seen firsthand London Fletcher...in an attempt to keep his consecutive games streak going....play hurt AND play like crap in the process. Ware is a good guy. But I think his "good guy" reputation has been taken too far. There were plenty of games over his career when he was GASSED and should have taken a few snaps off....because at the snap of the ball he barely even moved forward...but he did not. Is it being a team player when you are TOTALLY ineffective...but refuse to come off the field? I have also read about the percentage of snaps Witten played in Marty Bs last season in Dallas. The guy NEVER comes off the field....is that noble? We have now spent 3.....3...2nd round picks on TEs in the Witten era....and he simply does not come of the field. Some find it admirable. I find it selfish. A team with a slim margin for error needs to be at it's explosive best. And having guys on the field to preserve there "reputations" as opposed tot using the complete roster is SELFISH on the players part...and indicative of the inmates running the asylum.

So I am not buying this at all. This era of Cowboys football has been disgusting. And I hope the front office has learned a valuable lesson about anointing losers.....paying through the nose for losers.....I felt NOTHING when Ware got cut. Has not made an IMPACT play when it matters since the New Orleans game a few years ago. He has been a productive player. At times dominant. But has he been an impact player? The results speak for themselves.

Wrong. If he had 20 sacks it doesn't change anything. Bandwagon fans would just shift to a different 'Zone logical fallacy, most likely "we can just as easily miss the playoffs without his 20 sacks" or "he's not a leader/winner/gets garbage sacks", or really whatever they need to stick their hands in Ware's pockets to get the magical 7 million that will save our season. Which Jerry will no doubt flush down the can in the same manner he flushed twice that much on Austin, Ratliff and Spencer to do absolutely nothing last year.

you are amusing at times. Notice you completely ignore the roll of coaches in this sort of thing. But then not surprising coming from you
