Nick Harris: FO considering LBers AL-Shaair and Brooks

He is in the last year of his contract, which has no guaranteed money left
I understand that, and with the Dolphins in rebuilding mode, that's the reason they should trade him. But he's a first-team All-Pro with a relatively low cap hit, so there is going to be competition for him and Miami is going to want to get as much as possible.

I think we always want Dallas to win trades with the least amount of compensation possible, but I don't think we're always realistic on value. It's like some thinking the Raiders wouldn't be able to get two first-round picks for Crosby (although I guess ultimately they didn't because of the medicals).

For whatever it's worth, I would easily take Brooks over both Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker, if all three were free agents.

Dean has talent but hasn't been healthy. Got $12M/season. Walker is the Sam Williams of LBs. Got $12M/season.

Brooks is a limited cover LB, but has proven his run stuffing bona fides over and over and over, and has just been way more impactful than those other two.He is probably one of the top 3 NFL LBs that a running back doesn't want to see coming downhill.
Walker gets absolutely destroyed in coverage

I get that G, but I've got to give him a new contract or risk losing him after the 2026 season. I will go not higher than a 3rd.......

For Brooks you give up the 3rd you got for OSA and don't look back and then get him signed long term. With the recent secondary/Safety signings you add Brooks and the 2 first round picks you have transformed you D.
The still have about 22m in cap space too

Not to sound politcal here but with all the kneeling for the flag issues and Jerrys stance do you think he's going to sign a LB that likes to use his NFL platform to protest things:

from Google:
"Al-Shaair is a practicing Muslim and has been a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights. In January 2026, he drew national attention for wearing eye black with the message "STOP THE GENOCIDE" during a post-game interview after the Texans' playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers."

Although I think Miami is going to be seeking at least a second-rounder, I do agree that that would be fantastic.

Maybe a third and a late-rounder next year?

I would be into it as long as Brooks is ready to agree to a long term extension. I need him
On more than a one year deal.

Yeah I don’t think Brooks will cost as much as people think. He’s an impending free agent that will be 29 this year. There isn’t going to be a long list of teams lining up to give up a top 100 pick for a rental.

Also wouldn’t be surprised if Miami would prefer a ‘27 pick considering how many picks they already have this year

I dont think a franchise tag would be terribly expensive for a LB if we needed to go that route. Id give a third, but id also get him extended.
