I’ve always enjoyed sports nicknames- especially when they really fit the personality or history of a player. The Cowboys have historically had some great nicknames for players over the years. But it seems like the practice of issuing sports nicknames has faded somewhat, although we still have a few good ones like “Tank” Lawrence.

Here are a few great player nicknames from the past:

Tony “Thrill” Hill
Bob Lily “Mr. Cowboy”
Everson “Cubbie” Walls
“The Beautiful” Harvey Martin
Cliff “Crash” Harris
Randy White “The Manster”
Tony Dorsett “TD” or “Hawk”
Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson
Darren “Woody” Woodson
Rayfield Wright “The Big Cat”
Nate Newton “The Kitchen” or “Big Nate”
Michael Irvin “The Playmaker”
“Neon” Deion Sanders or “Primetime”

I know I have forgotten some. What are some other nicknames for past and current players and what nicknames might be appropriate for current players?

I do believe Leon Lett was also known as “ Big Cat”.

Nicknames were forever ruined when A-Rod arrived.

Everybody just started using that lazy pattern for everybody. It gets really annoying when "journalists" use that when addressing players they're interviewing.
