Nik Bonnito

Dudes a monster. One of the most natural pass rushers in the class IMO.

He’s going to give you nothing against the run in year 1 but neither is Williams who were talking to and this kid has more pass rush upside IMO.

You talking Bonitto correct ? . IMHO either him or Chad Muma high motor LB would help the D now not redshirt freshmen like last yrs draft.

100%...His pass rush win rate of 27% is the highest of FBS Edge players since 2020.

Wasn't that the same reasoning Dallas passed on TJ Watt?
It was. Watt however was about 250 at the combine. So quite a few pounds larger than Bonitto..

I still don’t believe Watt is the monster he is if he was playing every snap with his hand in the dirt. Dallas passing on him and letting him go to Pittsburgh was the best thing for him during that time.

Keep in mind, I am not against drafting Bonitto. I trust Quinn 100% more than Marinelli. I feel like Rod would not adapt to him as Quinn will find a way to make every player a dog.

Many view him as strictly a 3/4 OLB. Only 6’2”, not even 230 in college. Strictly a speed rusher with lacking ability to set edge.

He was over 230 in college…he ran 4.54 at 248 pounds at the combine. You can make your point without making stuff up.

I’m an admitted Sooner here and I can say that he was effective against the run when either he won off the snap with his quickness or when he slanted/stunted into the play. He isn’t going to be able to hold the edge against NFL tackles as a rookie. Taking him requires you to value sack/pressure production over the ability to set the edge, at least initially. Unless this defense makes other upgrades within the front seven or only wants to use him as a 3rd down specialist, I’d steer away from him. Which is a shame because he is a true natural at getting into the backfield.

I misremembered what I read in his scouting report by less than 10 LBs. https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nik-bonitto-oklahoma-olb-nfl-draft-scouting-report-2022/
T
hey have him at 6’3” and 238, strictly as an OLB or situational pass rusher who gets pushed around vs the run. Like many, he put on weight for the combine because he knew his playing weight would be a problem.
Sorry for the error.

Undoutably talented, however, unless he dramatically improves his ability to run defence the opposition will keep him off the field on 3rd downs by going no huddle (or running at him on 1st/2nd downs if he's played in the complete set).

Would you take him over Sam Williams, who has the physical traits Quinn covets?

Not saying that, just stating his wheelhouse may fall right into our pick range. I don't think he fits the 4-3 DE profile but I do think he's a very good player. I think he could be another hybrid DE/LB for DQ to play with.
Again, not saying we should do it, just saying I think he's good and they may see a role for him.

Think both players will go in that same 3rd rd range
