Any good or bad experiences with either? Were looking to buy in the next week and have found low mileage (around 20,000) used for these two vehicles in the $11k range.

I would check the date on that VW as they just had a huge diesel/mileage scandal, brudda

Read about it before you buy
Appreciate the tip. I think those are off the lots and they were only for diesels. Besides, I dont care about the emissions ;)

Both companies make good cars. I have owned a few VW's over the years including a Jetta. Had good luck..put a lot of miles on them...downside parts are expensive.

That was a question of mine. Ive heard on some of the German cars, specifically BMWs, you cant even rotate the tires because they are different widths on the front and back...did you find that with the Jetta? Someone said that you can only have the oil changed at a VW dealer.

You may be right, Key. Just do research on that VW. More so than any other vehicle.

VW has always had the reputation as that of Volvo and Subaru. Sterling.

Their latest gas controversy should give you cause for pause, and make you extra weary and knowledgable about what you're getting into, before purchasing, my man.

Ill have a look into it. Im a little worried about it being German made and the headache that might cause when it comes to repairs and maint.

Regarding the tires..No. If a car is under warranty and if that is important to you then you must have the service done at a VW dealership, like any other maker. Warranties are pro rated and I never cared much about them after 2 yrs on a new car. You can change your own oil and filters, that's what I always did especially on a used machine.

Every man does his own engine oil and filters, brakes, Boxer :)

Hell, I changed out a starter on my neighbor's Honda Odyssey. Simple ****, other than needing a breaker bar on the starter bolts

Yeah man, even foreign can be easy to work on, but German will definitely require a manual. And extremely small hands :)
Tell you something odd about the VW's at least the ones I owned...They have a fiber re-enforced rubber drive belt, instead of chain, It has an adjustable tensioner and this shittty belt must be changed out every 100k km. Its not cheap and extremely dangerous if left unchanged. Word to the wise.

Did you get the new CRV (2017)?

I’m looking at either that or a new Forester for my wife.

We bought a 2014 awd for about 20k that only had 23,000 miles on it. It had the full package and was a certified used Honda. A 70 year old woman owned it that lived in a country club and the gps was all programmed for places like the grocery store and pharmacy. The thing looks brand new.

We test drove all the new ones to but the wife liked the seats in the 2014 better because it had armrest like a captains chair.
We also drove the HRV but it wasn’t comfortable as a passenger because my feet wouldn’t fit in the little floor box and I’m only a size 9.5.
