I hope this isn't taken as negativity, and maybe we should have a props thread too, but I wanted to nitpick a couple of things I saw in the game. I want to do this because I know the coaches will be after watching the tape. I think the are a lot of positives to build upon so please don't take this as any sort of a rue!

  • Tanner - looking good as an RB but still a weak blitz pickup guy. I think both he and Dunbar still have not mastered pass protection. Tanner whiffed /didn't square properly on an LBer and almost got Stephens sacked. Should never have had to broken the pocket. I believe dunbar did the same last week with Orton, but orton got the ball out in less than 3 seconds.
  • TEs- this is nearly leaving nitpick status and stretching into oh crap status, but I didn't see much good blocking from TEs. Escobar is especially poor, as if he is too tall to get a good pad level, but he just has no technique.
  • Garrett - I am really enjoying Beaseley, but please stop with the kick returning nonsense. You will kill him. Kthx.
  • Garrett x2 - I kind of would have liked for them to have gone for it on 4th and short on the second possession. I want ST to get experience, but I want to see if this team can run some power football when it counts. This one is extra nitpicky because ST needs to practice in game as well.

Think of it this way.....We were saving most of our game plan for Thanksgiving. And seeing what guys can do if called upon in a pinch to play different spots. I really think our roster is set in the coaches eyes.....And they have a good idea of who is doing what.

I gotta add to you TE "nit-pick"...

Witten.

Yes, the guy is a wonderful talent and has provide top echelon production to the team and many hours of entertainment for us, but the mindless penalties he creates– Just cause me to SMH at times.

That holding penalty was a tough call.

Especially when it looked like the raiders LT's had a strangle hold on the guys coming around the edge all night.

And then there was the FB taking off early on a nice run for the faders.

Same here! Can't believe we didn't go for it. Especially in preseason.

It's sad that you have to defend actual game analysis around here now.

Anyway, I really agree w/r/t Tanner and Dunbar re: blitz pickup. It should be their biggest advantage over Randle, but if they can't get it done, you can go ahead and pencil Randle in as the second string back right now.

Sorry one more.

Kyle Wilber - had a couple of nice plays and a couple where he just got swallowed up. Some is technique, but I don't believe for a second that he is a quality DE. I'm not terribly worried about the strong side DE, but any nonsense about DL depth can be squashed right now.

What scare me is that these are the guys you will likely have in on a third down. Between them and Esconar/Hanna, you can't even competently max protect because they are a whiff risk. It means you have to keep WITTEN in to pass block, and thats just a waste.

ITs not being negative, but while some teams looked better to me, Dallas had even less of excuses for their performance. I hope its not back to one week looking good and one week off. I really have high hopes for our coaches, so lets see if they turn it around for next week. Raiders played decent, but were getting away with holds, almost head turns and a few others. For where they are at vs where we should be, they played well and they played til the end.

We're going to have to plug a bigger lineman in at SDE this season, no doubt. Since Tyrone's injury, and I expect him to actually be a very good player in his career if he can come back, we just don't have that many bodies that will be able to man that position. I expect us to go full Seahawk defense as far as SDE. When Spencer comes out, he'll be replaced by a much bigger body.

No one is going to catch flak for a game analysis that is based around bad plays or players. As you can see I was one of the first to add to it. :D

It's just everyone gets sick of the endless droning on of certain topics by certain posters.

Escobar is never going to be a goood blocker,he is too gangly for that.

That was a BS holding call.

I feel like we got away with a few holds ourselves.

RB blitz pick up is such an underrated aspect of the game. Although I do like the stable of RB's that we have now, I don't really see Tanner or Dunbar as game changers.

I wouldn't be against bringing in a competent vet at a good price once final cuts are made if this does continue to be an issue.

oh for sure, im not saying we were perfect. I myself have to old back the negativity because i almost felt the team was regressing back to the penalty game. I really want Callahan to fix that. Im hoping he will. So far the line has been much better than i hoped. I figred by now fans would be booing it, so its been good.

I like what Dunbar especially brings when he has the ball, but without a fullback in there, sometimes it's what you do when you don't have the ball that matters.

Please don't confuse Witten with nuclear physicist. :D He may be a great guy but he isn't in the NFL because of his brain -- he will make bonehead plays.
