The Oakland Raiders have locked up Pro Bowl cornerback Nmandi Asomugha with a three-year contract worth at least $45 million, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.
Citing a league source, Schefter reports that Asomugha’s deal could be worth as much as $50 million.
Under the language of the contract, Asomugha is slated to make $28.5 million during the first two years of the deal. That money is all guaranteed.
There’s an option in Year 3 of the deal where the Raiders would have to pay Asomugha either the average of the top five salaries regardless of position or $16.875 million. Asomugha would be compensated with whichever is the higher figure.
If the Raiders should choose to not exercise the option, Asomugha would be allowed to become a free agent and Oakland would not be allowed to use the franchise tag to retain him.
Meanwhile, Nancy Gay of the San Francisco Chronicle reports slightly different numbers. She has Asomugha signing a three-year deal worth nearly $40 million, including $26 million in guaranteed money.
Under the structure of the deal, Asomugha would be up for free agency again when he’s 31.

I'd need a sedative to calm me down. Small town kid like him about to be wealthy beyond his wildest imagination.theogt;2645501 said:This must make Ware's head spin.
SLATEmosphere;2645478 said:I think it was a dumb signing. Your paying that much for a corner who won't help that defense. They are going to have the same defense they had last year..the defense that was ranked in the bottom half of the league and you still pay that kind of money?
The reason Qb's don't throw to him is because they have Stanford Routte and had Deangelo Hall complimenting him. Why throw to Nnamdi when you could just tear the other guy up? Just a dumb move.

SLATEmosphere;2645506 said:You can't use the Raider contracts as a starting point and leverage. Al Davis is running a whole different league over there. Just like Tommy Kelley signing a 50 million dollar deal wil have no affect on Canty.
AKATheRake;2645509 said:Al is obviously paying up some serious coin for Asomugha's service the next 2 years but he will get a return on his investment and is securing a return the next 2-3 years after the first 2 years of the contract by not having the guaranteed money going into year 3. Imagine if Jamarcus Russell could reach his potential and they get Crabtree 7th overall this year. That defense down in Oakland is solid and it's frontlined by the best corner in football, maybe the best secondary in football. .
