Money well spent. He's the best corner in the game. A true shutdown corner in a league that doesn't have them anymore.

probably 90% of that is a signing bonus

Well why don't we just do that with Albert Haynesworth if "90% is signing bonus" Al davis seems to have a magical cap fairy to help him. The cap is a joke and there's dozens of ways to get any player you want.

Oh my god.

Who is inside that office nodding their head to Al, telling him that these are good deals?

RAIDERS STRIKE A DEAL WITH ASOMUGHA
Posted by Aaron Wilson on February 19, 2009, 2:20 p.m.

The Oakland Raiders have locked up Pro Bowl cornerback Nmandi Asomugha with a three-year contract worth at least $45 million, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.

Citing a league source, Schefter reports that Asomugha’s deal could be worth as much as $50 million.

Under the language of the contract, Asomugha is slated to make $28.5 million during the first two years of the deal. That money is all guaranteed.

There’s an option in Year 3 of the deal where the Raiders would have to pay Asomugha either the average of the top five salaries regardless of position or $16.875 million. Asomugha would be compensated with whichever is the higher figure.

If the Raiders should choose to not exercise the option, Asomugha would be allowed to become a free agent and Oakland would not be allowed to use the franchise tag to retain him.

Meanwhile, Nancy Gay of the San Francisco Chronicle reports slightly different numbers. She has Asomugha signing a three-year deal worth nearly $40 million, including $26 million in guaranteed money.

Under the structure of the deal, Asomugha would be up for free agency again when he’s 31.

Maybe it's not inside the office. Maybe Al has other advisors around the league he runs these ideas by.

Hope this doesn't have the effect on Ware's deal I fear it will.

I think it was a dumb signing. Your paying that much for a corner who won't help that defense. They are going to have the same defense they had last year..the defense that was ranked in the bottom half of the league and you still pay that kind of money?

The reason Qb's don't throw to him is because they have Stanford Routte and had Deangelo Hall complimenting him. Why throw to Nnamdi when you could just tear the other guy up? Just a dumb move.

This must make Ware's head spin.

You can't use the Raider contracts as a starting point and leverage. Al Davis is running a whole different league over there. Just like Tommy Kelley signing a 50 million dollar deal wil have no affect on Canty.

Ware's deal will be a totally different structure and will probably be a 7 year deal. You're looking at a guy who will get about $38-$42 million in guaranteed money and that's acceptable considering he is the best at what he does, the contract will be long enough to spread the guaranteed money out respectably and Ware has undoubtedly 5-6 more top notch years in him barring any significant injury and due to his age. He'd be 33-34 by the end of a new 7 year deal. We don't lose with Ware.

In regards to regards to Asomugha's new deal, Al Davis isn't as stupid on this one as you guys are making him out to be due to were the guaranteed money is paid in the structure. Nmandi is the best corner in the league and his next 2-3 years are were he should continue this success considering his age. But just like Champ, he should be a good corner but not "the best" 4 years from now. So yes, Nmandi is averaging $3 million more a season than Asante Samuels deal in the first 2 years of his contract but all of the guaranteed money is put up where Nmandi should be producing anyways and he'll haveto continue that production in the 3rd year to get another extension and the 3rd year there isn't any guranteed money so if he tanks in his 2nd year on Al he won't get a 3rd with this structure.

Al is obviously paying up some serious coin for Asomugha's service the next 2 years but he will get a return on his investment and is securing a return the next 2-3 years after the first 2 years of the contract by not having the guaranteed money going into year 3. Imagine if Jamarcus Russell could reach his potential and they get Crabtree 7th overall this year. That defense down in Oakland is solid and it's frontlined by the best corner in football, maybe the best secondary in football. Jamarcus Russell (1st overall talent actually happens?) Darren McFadden and Micheal Crabtree. That's some serious juice on offense if Russell can play up to a first overall picks potential. The pieces are being put in place down in Oakland and that's a very young team. Pricey and some poor decisions made last season with Hall, Walker and Kelly but Hall's gone, Kelly's serviceable and Al needs to dump Walker and cut his losses there, probably will too. If the QB develops, the team builds a committed and talented coaching staff and gets Crabtree, in 2-3 years watch out. Alot of "if s" but all very possible "ifs".

You're right it shouldn't be. But you just know his agent is going to go there.
