Excellent movie. One of the best I've seen in a long time. I've seen it about 4 times on cable, never saw the beginning though. Did I miss something in the beginning? What's with the ending?

1) Where did the money eventually go? Did Chigur have the money in the trunk of the car when he had the accident and just left it there? Did the sheriff find the money somewhere and then retire? Did the wife of the guy who found the money get the money? Who got the money?

2) Did Chigur kill the wife of the guy who took the money? She wouldn't call the coin flip. Later, Chigur wipes his boots on her porch. Does that mean he killed her?

3) Did Chigur kill the accountant who saw him kill the exec in the office? Accountant: "Are you going to kill me, too?" Chigur: "That depends. Did you see me?"

The dialogue in this movie was awesome. Woody Harrelson's chat with the guy in the hospital was hilarious. "Is this guy the ultimate Bad ***?" "I was in Viet Nam, too." "What, does that make us buddies, now?" Woody Harrelson's chat with Chigur was also interesting.

It is a great movie. I watch it every time it shows up on cable.

Chigur got the money. The Sheriff sees the open air vent, and earlier Chigur checked the air vent in the other motel, saw the drag marks and knew Moss's hiding place. He probably didn't bring it with him when he went to kill Moss's wife, which he of course did. In the book, it's told where he brought it.

I would imagine he killed the accountant. He kills everyone, even those who would have never seen him, (Moss's wife), let a lone a guy who saw him kill another man.

It is a great movie, with a rather pessimistic message, possibly even a nihilistic one. The first time I saw it, I had a strong feeling that Javier was going to win the Oscar. I've never felt chills in a scene like what I felt in the gas station "friendo" scene.

Yes, Chigurh kills everyone who sees him kill someone. However, he does not kill everyone, as the "friendo" scene shows. Rather he strictly adheres to his "moral code" of chance, where random coin flips determine whether one lives or dies. It's why he remarks "why does everyone keep telling me I don't have to do something", or something to that effect. He doesn't understand why people keep questioning his moral code.

In the end, the bad guy "wins", even if he is injured in the car accident. He gets the money, gets away with murder, and gets away from the police.

TLJ's character's speech at the end kind of solidifies the negative message. However, there is room for optimism, as a glimmer of hope is represented by the light provided by his father's camp fire.

If he's so strict about his moral code thenI don't see how he could have killed the wife... but I also assumed he did.

He did in the book because she called it wrong. I assumed if she called it right he would have let her live.

Never read the book, in the movie doesn't she refuse to call it?

I don't remember. In the book she does and is wrong and he kills her. It tears Tommy Lee Jones' character up. One of the last chapters is his anguish over her death and what kind of man Anton Chigurh is.

BTW, one of the most chilling scenes to me is when he kills Woody Harrelson and sees the blood seeping across the floor and picks his feet up and puts them out of the way.

In the movie she does refuse to call it and it just cuts to him leaving the house and checking the bottom of his boots for blood.

Yeah, that's why I assumed he killed her because in the scene Hostile mentioned he had taken care not to get blood on his shoes so him checking them as he leaves indicates that he wanted to be sure of the same thing.

Most in my family don't like the movie, but I can't stop watching it whenever it comes on. Just a great, well acted movie.

I'm pretty sure Chigurh didn't get the money.

The crazy Mexicans that were flying out of the motel parking lot after killing Llewelyn(sp?) got it.

Chigurh went there at night after the incident and that's why Tommy Lee Jones sees the empty vent where Chigurh thought the money was and Chigurh was hiding in the shower.

Anyway, great movie. It has an insane amount of hidden meaning and philosophical undertones.

.

The Mexicans killed Llewellen? I thought it was Chigurh. I'll just have to watch the movie again.

Yeah.

Remember when Tommy Lee Jones is driving up to the motel and that truck is seen flying out of the parking lot with guns firing?

Then Jones drives up to the crime scene and sees Llewellen's body in the room.

Chigurh doesn't show up until night time looking for Llewellen and the money. But Llewellen is dead and the money is gone.

Another thing that tells me that the Mexicans got the money is because Chigurh visits the wife still looking for the money.

Personally I think this is one of the more overrated movies I have ever seen. It's not bad, but I don't get all the love poured on it by everyone.

(Okay. So, I'm a little late here, and this isn't even the right thread. But it's the thought that counts. Right?)

That's a pretty typical reaction.
