No deal likely with Austin Davis

never believe anything you hear coming out of this organization....this is the same clown organization that stated it didn't want Foles before they were trying to sign him and reports coming out last week were the Cowboys weren't interested in Davis, now they're trying to sign him!!.....they want a QB to backup showers in case he's injured tonight and a Qb with some experience in the league that can grasp ten plays quickly is better than some raw rookie....I've stated it before, I doubt Dallas has any interest in Davis long term other than for tonight's game
That makes no sense at all though. There are many quarterbacks available they could pick up for one game, many requiring very little money. The idea they are just considering Davis for a 4th preseason game 24 hours or less before the game that he won't he know the playbook for is ridiculous. I understand the hate you may have toward elements of the organization, but at least make your rants and complaints based on some sort of common sense, if not logic.

I understand his thinking, but he's 27 and the best he will be able to hope for this season is a backup position somewhere and only team's with quarterback injuries would really consider him at this point of the season since we're a little over a week from the season starting. Even then, those teams would not likely keep him past this season either.

Now, if the Cowboys are low-balling him by not offering a multi-year contract or decent signing bonus, I could understand his lack of interest, but I doubt they are doing that given their desperate need for another quarterback.

what NFL team is offering this guy a long term deal???

Romo is injured, Dak isn't playing, you have only one Qb, Showers on the roster to play.......HE doesn't need to know the complete playbook, he needs to grasp ten plays, it's an emergency situation in case Showers is injured, that's why they wanted to sign him, That's logic to anyone with a brain

Then you go get a UDFA rookie that basically hands the ball off for a half. I doubt you sign a vested veteran for mop up duty in the 4th preseason game with the intention to cut him. That would be terrible form.

There is absolutely no logic or even common sense to what you are saying. Thinking you can sign an NFL veteran quarterback who has started several NFL games to a one game contract for a 4th preseason game is mind boggling stupid. No veteran quarterback out there would do that. No team would even waste time making an offer like that because no veteran player or their agent would ever accept it. Why? Because no veteran quarterback is going to risk an injury for a one-game contract, especially one in a 4th preseason game where none of the starting offense, especially the offensive line, is going to be playing.

I agree completely that the Cowboys need another quarterback for tonight's game (something I've mentioned in several of my posts since Moore was injured) and as I have said several times, there are plenty of non-veteran quarterbacks available for them to sign *IF* they only wanted one for one game who they could get for hardly any money.

As I said, I understand your hate toward the Cowboys organization, but at least use a little common sense before making a ridiculous statement.

Is see the reasoning in not playing Dak, but the guy needs reps the team can't live by being scared of Injuries.

I think people don't get that a teams reputation with players actually matters unless you've got a good enough coach, read Belicheck, for it to not matter. If you screw over veterans consistently its going to be viewed poorly and probably hurt you in future signings.

The only way you could play Dak would be to play the entire offense, especially the offensive line. Meaning, you would be risking the entire offense in a game that does not matter.

vested Veteran, He's started in all of 10 games in his career for two teams......he has one foot out the door of this league, and to hold a clipboard for a game check is pretty much he's looking at, but I guess he's hoping the vikings come calling for a chance to play this year....terrible form, teams do it all the time to get through these meaningless preseason games!

Yeah, and he looked pretty stupid when they ended up bringing him in.

You may not know the whole story here, Stash.
Broaddus talked about it yesterday and he eats lunch with some of the coaches and scouts on the team. He said
that he got it wrong but, the guys he talked to were not high on Davis at all. Obviously, someone higher up
in the organization wanted to kick the tires. Still, Broaddus does have inside sources even though he may
not be directly speaking to Stephen or Jerry everyday. Keep an open mind and nothing is ever set in stone
until the ink is dry.

According to Broaddus, the Cowboys aren't all that fond of Austin Davis. He even said that before they brought him in for a workout. I'm guessing they were just covering all their bases.

It figures -- evidently, they were just trying to get him on the cheap and it didn't go as planned. Back to the drawing board.

So, did Davis go through waivers or did he have 4 years of service and became a FA when he got released?

If he was on waivers, he could have been claimed for 1.3m salary this year and 1.75 for next. Not outrageous.

As a free agent cut from his third or 4th team, I would think he would have been not so picky on where he might go. The only negative is that Dallas might have told him they weren't going to sign him until after week one or something. Vet minimum with a small signing bonus realistically should be enough to sign him.

If our goal is to get a Dak Clone, then Davis surely isn't the guy. Neither would Petty be, or Murray if they get cut. Somewhat puzzling, but in terms of personnel and pay, this team is bizarre. We overpay a lot of guys, then are remarkably chintzy with others. We redo Lee's deal, which ends up increasing our cap hit, after the guy has one fairly healthy season and despite the fact he has a concern with his knee. We are the only team that would do that. We seem to ignore some positions for years despite them being huge weaknesses year after year.

I have a feeling they have their eye on that waiver wire and don't want to mess with it.

I also hope they give Jameil Showers the entire game tonight so he can manage the game, not try to make quick impressions. Like Parcells did for Romo way back when.

Yes E!

He deserves a chance to make it. He's been stuck with Looney and Rico Gathers the whole preseason. I think he has earned a long look and I hope he plays well.
