Sports bars probably not thrilled with this news

I don't think it really effects them at all.
If a game was not shown locally due to blackout,,a sports bar still couldn't show it, as DTV would also be blacked out in the home market.

If anything it may help them, as people will go to watch at a bar regardless. More fans may want to go out to watch if it's on, when normally it would not be.

I am waiting for "your Team Ticket" from a cable or sat provider, I would probably pay $200 a year to watch all the Cowboys games. Being in the Baltimore Market and having FIOS I only got like 11 games last year since FIOS in baltimore does not carry the DC affiliates like comcast does.

First time in three years. Been a long time coming. Dropped DirecTV two weeks ago, and went with Comcast for like 5 days. DirecTV called us back with a great offer which included Sunday Ticket. Had to take it.

I had DTV and NFL ST for 16 years. When I went to cancel regular service, but wanted to keep ST, all I got was grief and BS from them. Was insulted, as the girl said I was stupid. and they didn't want to listen to what I wanted. So I cancelled everything.

What I got was an offer to sign back up, but had to have a 2 year contract, only ST free for 1 year.
I told them they were full of crap, but I did not use that PC term.

Didn't know I could cancel service and still keep the Ticket. I may at least threaten to cancel and see if I can get it free.

Last year they called my bluff.

Last year they called my bluff.

After 8 months I finally got an answer from them. Used to be able to have the ST and pay per view option, for $9.99 a month just for the service, if you used it or not. I did this from 97 to 2004. 2004 I went full service, until 2013. I needed to make a change at the time.
I miss the option of seeing different games, but not at their expense and loss of signal even with the slightest rain.

I was told they stopped doing that, and needed to have a minimal package at $29.95 a month.

You can get a on line deal only for the ST, however, you must be in an area that you can not get a signal from a dish, or can't do DTV service at all. If they still do this.
DTV just plain sucks anymore as well as their customer service IMO.

That's the deal I'm on. So you wanted to pay only for ST? Were you lowering your TV package to a base package?

Now if only they could make Sunday Ticket free for everyone. Tee hee.
Dream on. I see the line about sports bars...
But in most major markets games are sold out and seen local anyway. Local fans mostly stay home to watch their local team.
I do not see any place with Sunday ticket suffering a massive exodus of people from those places.
They still will get the fans whose teams are not in that market to go there to watch.

I probably would have, but it wasn't explained to me when I called. I wanted to lower it back to the service only for the $9.99 a month.
But the girl did not explain it to me, that it had to be a $29.95 base package. She went right to insulting me that it was stupid to go to a different service for cable. She literally said I was stupid.

I told her I was traveling for my work, only spend a few days home a month, and the person staying in my house wanted a different service, as the signal was going out to much, during the lightest rain. I also found out later, another person said, if it's true they had better dishes and receivers. My dish was from 2004. She did not say that either, just the insults. I really hope she was fired but doubt it. Company is inept, she was probably promoted.
So I cancelled everything. When I called to complain, they didn't care, just tried to get me to sign back up.

After 8 months, when I called again, to find out where my $85 refund they owed me was, as when ever I called, I got the run a round BS. Well after the 8 months, I finally got someone that explained the base package deal, but would do no better than one year free of ST, but a 2 year contract. plus buy their receivers AND pay a monthly fee for them. I told him what I told the others, they were full of "crap".

I like the ST, but will never have DTV again, unless on-line only for ST, then would need to really think about it. First Row sports and wiziwig tv, works well enough for me for now, just not as convenient.

Wow. Sorry you got the runaround like that. Sometimes that happens. So you view off the internet now. Lots of buffering? I can't stand internet streaming. Last season, I listened to a radio station via the internet to get Brad and Babe for games. Even then the station was like 3 or 4 minutes behind the actual game, and the game would randomly get cut out for commercial breaks, right in the middle of a play or critical down. Pissed me off. But, I guess it was better than nothing. So this year, instead of having to miss the usual 6 to 7 games, I'll be sitting pretty with ST Max. I'm pretty excited about it, even if it's just for this upcoming season.

When I did use DTV at hotels through my laptop I stayed at, the streaming was as good as the wifi at the hotel. sometimes it was great, and was about 1 minute behind. sometimes it froze, and got those 3 to 4 minutes behind. Another hotel I stayed at had ST in the bar, as well as in a pavilion in back of the hotel. Last season I was in Houston, so quite a few games on there anyway. When in Arkansas, all games were on.

After I dumped DTV & ST, I bought a slingbox. And now connect to that when I travel. Bought it almost 2 years ago. I get all my channels that's on my cable service at the house, can watch on laptop, iPhone or iPad...and no monthly fees. It works great, and 30 seconds or so delay as opposed to watching on tv.

buffering on first row sports or wiziwig can be a pain, but it's free. I use those for other games though.

I don't think this is good for a season ticket holder for a struggling team because all this does is keep the high ticket prices the same. Jax, Oakland, and a few other teams probably were talking about reducing their prices so they can sell out the games. As a result, the NFL decide to not go with the blackout.

For online only, you are no longer eligible if you have or are eligible to receive DTV. I thought I read in an article that you have to have an address or apt where you can't receive DTV, or a student at one of their lists of universities in order to get online ST w/o DTV.
