We know for a fact that he insist on starting and focusing Elliott last year when he wasn’t totally healthy. McCarthy even initially stated wanted to rest him but then when Zeke wanted to play here comes Jethro to rescue Zekes wishes. No doubt. Jones has tried or successfully meddled in on-the-field football decision-making almost since day one. And it is not like he has not signed off on excessively large player contracts before (Romo, Elliott, etc.).
My interest is in whether Jones is doing what he should not be doing, namely working against his own best interests. It is true the current NFL is pass happy. It is also true every teams' offense cannot necessarily pass as efficiently as the next team.
The team fields capable running backs. Run blocking has not been fantastic but the offensive line has more than done its job more often than not.
If Jones is proactively suggesting or outright telling his coaches and franchise quarterback to pass more than what is planned, it would decrease his own running game's ability to create scoring opportunities.
That is not what any general manager should be doing. It would be nice if the press would intently question him why is his team continually abandoning the run in favor of passing more.
This is a great example of placing his 90 million contract ahead of what’s best for the success of the team. Jethro even played down Pollards first start and explosive performance. I’m not sure why it’s not more revealing to us.
There’s so many other examples out there. But yet some fans still want to take this dysfunctional organization and toxic culture serious when it has a little success.
