Let me put this disclaimer at the start of this - I don't want this to turn into a bash Gregory thread, that is not my intent at all. Simply put, I'm curious if any of the Dallas residents/local media ever have any news/stories on Randy ?
I've been thinking about it for awhile and looked through the Roster Zone, News Feed etc. Now, obviously his upcoming suspension probably has a lot to do with it, but for a high profile pick at one of our premium positions - its awfully quiet when it comes to any news about him.
He is listed at 6'5" - 245 lbs. I'm curiously awaiting the first mini-camp, think its May 24th or so, to see if he has rebuilt himself. We see the pics of Chaz Green (same draft), read stories about Byron Jones, Barry Church etc. Even Lawrence gets mentions a lot about fighting his suspension. But I don't see Gregory anywhere ?
I'm hopeful with Hardy gone - who seemed to be a bad locker room influence, With Collins, his college teammate now in the fold. That Gregory can put his past behind him and live up to his potential. That first mini camp will tell us a lot about what he has been doing this off season.
Do I trust him ? No, do I hope this latest suspension/ loss of money is his wake up call ? Most definitely.
I always read how that first off-season is the biggest leap, change players make. It just seems very quiet on any news etc. in this regard.
If the local Dallas news picks up more then what we out of stators hear or see - help a brother out !

I've been searching for any news on Gregory. Nothing. No news is good news?

Honestly, probably not. Think about how the Cowboys PR machine works. If they're laying low on a player, there's usually a reason.

Other than him being suspended for the first quarter of the season, yup, no news here...

Last I heard was Broaddus on the radio show yesterday ripping him apart for not caring about football to much.

He makes good points too about it.

Nebraska has one of the best weight programs in the country and he is as skinny as a rail.

Also, he had to fail that test 4 times in order to be suspended.

I just hope Gregory can grow up and put this type of crap behind him. It is not worth it. He has cost himself money and he has let down teammates who were counting on him.

Weight program or steroids program? Honest question? Do college players still do steroids?

Oh i'm sure.

There will be steroids in sports for the rest of time.

Catlin said the collegiate system, in which players often are notified days before a test and many schools don't even test for steroids, is designed to not catch dopers. That artificially reduces the numbers of positive tests and keeps schools safe from embarrassing drug scandals.

Gregory was at the cowboys golf tournament in grapevine recently. All is good per jerry jones in a fort worth star telegram article.

Like that's a reliable source to go by.:muttley:

Would love to hear from an unbiased source that he's getting his stuff together. This is where you chain a Charles Hailey type to him in the offseason. Don't give him any room/time to breath anything else but workouts and training.

I think people are really discounting his mental problems. A very typical reaction to social anxiety disorder (which is what he has rather than bipolar) is to use drugs to feel better. Marijuana is very effective for some people in that manner.

Dude has a mental illness. He's not getting high to party. He is getting high to cope with his problems.

I honestly think the organization did not put the right kind of supports in place here. They likely treated this as a "dude likes to party" situation when it is a "dude needs mental health services" type of deal.

Damm, did not hear that. Not good ...

This is all good and fine and I'm glad he has the support of Jerry and the team. With that said, "support" can often also "enable," and this is where the team needs to draw a hard line. If I were them, I would explain to Gregory that if he fails a test one more time, he's off the team. Not because they're angry with him but because he does the team no good being suspended for multiple games. I would present this to him in a very calm and straightforward manner, if you fail again, the team's hands are tied.

So he either wants to play for America's Team, or he doesn't. But at least the team has clearly defined the parameters

Same here. Broaddus was pretty frank about how he feels about the situation with Randy.

I listen to a good amount of their shows, never heard him go off on a player like that. Openly accuse them of such things. he questions 55s love of the game but not as aggressively as Gregory.
