No one here talks about rebuilding, but I will

Rebuilding, to me, means starting from scratch...I can't see the need for that in a league of parity...if the QB was worthless, then yeah, that is easier to do

To me, it more of a re-tool at some positions, specifically the DL...heck, they just upgraded the CB and OL position in the last two seasons and those were the two biggest needs...now, move on to the DL...the rest will come along

One argument can be made we have been rebuilding for the past 15 years.... and on the other hand, one can argue we have done very little rebuilding in the last 15 years.

After years of same old, same old, I would love a house cleaning starting with the owner, GM, associate HC.

Here's the biggest problem I have with the way this team is constructed.. Jerry has given big extensions to players that have not won a thing... then he is restructuring these contracts pushing more dead money into the future.. and I'm talking about Romo, Ware, Witten, Ratliff and Ware...putting the Franchise tag on Spencer was plain stupid..

QB: Romo will be the man for the next few years. We should have someone that can replace him once his time is done on the roster at some point in the future. The last thing we want is to force a rookie into a role of "America's Team QB"

RB: Murray is still young and we drafted Randle this season. We still have yet to see Dunbar or Tanner get any snaps. With our pass friendly offense we are ok with these players.

WR/TE: Witten is getting old but can give us some more years. Escobar is looking like a decent pickup. Dez, Williams, and Beasley are all young.

Oline: Smith, Leary and Frederick are all young and have proven to be a good trio thus far. We can look at addressing the right side in the offseason though

Dline: IMO this is our weakest part of the team. Ware is getting older and he's no longer an impact player. Their is a lack of depth on the DT spot and this should be our top priority this offseason.

LB corps: Lee and Carter will be here for years to come. They are both very young!! I still want to see Holloman get some action. He has a nose for the ball

DB: Wilcox and Claiborne are very young and will contribute for years to come. If I'm not mistaken Carr and Church are still under 30.

Overall,

Looking at each position we are very young with "impact" players with the exception of our Dline, so I think the rebuilding has been taking place under our nose. Just my opinion.

Fixed it for you. Have you seen Ware outside of the first 2 games? Also, he completely disappeared in the 2nd half of the Chiefs games so really have you ware outside of the first 1.5 games?

D line. Really that is where we really have need. Much as I love DeWare the signs are that his neck stingers are becoming chronic and his chances of regaining his old form are diminishing. He looked great in camp until the stinger came back- which happened pretty much as soon as he was playing a full game and getting hit (tackled, horse collared, etc). Getting someone even in the same galaxy as Ware will be incredibly hard. Top Pass Rushers are so very rare. Our first round pick next draft needs to be oriented in that direction. To be honest I would not mind us using whatever it took to get a top pass rusher (not Clowney- he is already making 'business decisions)

And we will need a DT as well. Maybe Selvie is good enough to replace Spencer- we will find that out this season. IF so we basically need the pass rusher and one DT that can get penetration and cause problems.

To make a serious run at a SB you need at least 5 top players
Top 10 QB, LT, WR, CB
Top 5 Pass rusher
Right now we pretty much have all of those except the last with DeWares injuries

It seems like we have been rebuilding for the last 17 years.

I hear that, can we rebuild the GM....and who ever signs these average joe's to huge contracts..oh excuse me, it's the same guy. Only thing in common with 17 years of losing is the GM. What's new

........That's where I'm at also...focus on the DLine----We need as many guys as possible that command double teams to make this tampa 2 work. I sit and hope Crawford comes back full strength and if need be either him or Selvie can push Ware on the other side. Then we could focus on a disruptor at Def. Tackle inside to replace Hayden and let Hatcher deal with more one on ones, presuming he is re-signed.

If we start getting into a Rivers or a Mannings face....all of a sudden our back 7 start looking serviceable, especially if we can force a team to start keeping a rb or TE in for protection instead of killing us in the flats or middle.

Burm, while I largely agree with you, to contend , just as important as those top players, a team needs depth at every position and to have those players 'coached up' and ready to go

That is where a FO and coaching become critically important and I am afraid that we are SORELY lacking in both those areas

"Next man up" should be more than just a catch phrase, it needs to be the way our team prepares for any game and the season as a whole

Nothing didn't need to be fixed. Ware is still an impact player and to use the argument over a few games doesn't make a case for him not being one.

We have a lot of youth. Unfortunately, over the years, most of them have been mediocre.

Like your comments, but I got a question, Do you think this DLhas lots of depth but no playmakers or vise versa? I just don't see a lot of true NFL caliber starters on this DL. It is like the next man up approach is nothing more than plucking players off the streets and starting them on Sundays. That approach is failing fast.

I take it, no one has noticed the sig I have had for the past few years?

Course, I guess that is more like cleaning house totally and not rebuilding. There are some players definitely to hold on to on this squad..

We have been since JG took over. Compare the roster JG inherited to the one today. You will be very surprised.

He inherited a team that had just won 2 division titles winning 13 and 11 games, plus another playoff appearance and a 9-7 year and turned it into a mediocre .500 team.

Interesting spin. That team he took over also just went 1-7 and got Wade fired.

If you do your player personnel right, there's no need to rebuild in the NFL. Just look at the Patriots. With the salary cap, the differences in team talent is small. You just need to get the best out of your players that you can.

Ware is the only one of our key players that I don't think has many years left.

Wasnt Red in charge of basically half the freaking team from 2007-2010? Jerry said Garrett had full autonomy over the offense and Wade did nothing on defense.

If Red just showed up in 2010 and took over that Wade team, I could see your point. However Red was the co-pilot of this 747 when it crashed.

Never understood how he gets a pass for that.

yep, to think that Jason "head coach in waiting" Garrett shouldn't share blame is idiotic
