Let's see. Romo working as lead for CBS, Dak goes down with injury, Romo walks out on CBS straight to Cowboys. Something stinks.
I hear it is no big deal for a brittle, old QB, after a 1 1/2-year layoff, to walk into the huddle and lead a team to victory. I believe in Hollywood endings.

As any rational person would guess, it would be a painful thing to watch, Romo, after a 1 1/2 year layoff, come in and try to lead any team. It would be the ultimate humiliation for Romo and his he Cowboys.

But, if Romo were to go to the mini camps and then camp, then, yes, he could get back into shape and do his thing and maybe do a plausible job. Albeit as a 37-old man and with a history of granny bones.
I don't think it's an option after this season. But, yes, I think if Dak was lost for the season or *maybe* another really good team loses their starting quarterback for the rest of the year THIS season, i think Romo would return if he felt the team had a real good shot at a Super Bowl. To play his whole career and not get a Super Bowl and for a potential Super Bowl to be dangled in front of him, I can't see him saying no to that this season. That said, by next year, I cannot imagine Romo being ready to play unless he went through a full off-season and pre-season workout and preparation, which he won't be doing.

The fact that he said he's 99% sure he's not coming back means only the perfect situation may bring him back. I really think about the only way he returns would be for the Cowboys if Dak wass lost for the season. I cannot see him returning to play for another team, because if that were the case, he would have signed with the Texans who, with him, assuming he stayed healthy, would have given him a real chance at a Super Bowl.

If Dak Prescott gets hurt and lost for the season, who do you think the Cowboys are going to call first? If another really good team is having a great year and they lose their starting quarterback for the rest of the season, who are they going to call first?

Look what the media did to Brett Favre .. retired, unretired, retired, unretired .. it became a joke, mostly due to media speculation and them camping non-stop around his property, rather than Favre himself.

I don't blame Romo for simply leaving. This way, if he returns, he can say, "I never said I was retiring!" but if he doesn't, he gets to go out the way he wanted. Because the Cowboys cut him, he doesn't even have to file retirement papers.

beat me to it...hes a URFA...he doesnt have to do anything now. Just stand pat.

The only way he comes back is if something happened like with Oakland last year. Week 14, team already clinched a playoff birth, QB goes down with a season ending injury. I think Romo might be willing to leave the booth for a situation like that.

So the question becomes, what are the odds of that happening? Well, both Carr and Mariotta went down in the final weeks of the season with major injuries, so its not unheard of. Now obviously the team would have to be a very good team for Romo to consider this, he isn't coming out of the booth to lead the Bills to a 9-7 record. It would have to be a legit SB contending team that loses their QB in the final weeks of the season.

I don't see this perfect storm happening, but never say never.

So, since he was released outright and is technically not a member of the Cowboys anymore will he sign a one day contract to retire as a cowboy?
