They're really not trying to 'improve', and that's the problem. The entire thing is about making money, and both owners and players, that's all they're after.
Unfortunately, fans like us see things differently. We want the best players who will put forth their best effort. We want them to have the passion and desire to compete for championships. The thing is, the players and owners don't give a rat's arse about any of that. The league is not the same as it was in the 1970's, 1980's, or 1990's when the priorities were more about competition and less about who has the biggest salary. It's devolved into nothing more than 'just a job' that pays enormously well. It's this mindset that leads to players admitting they didn't care try to win a game because they were 'tired' or 'worn out'. If they were truly invested in competing crap like that would never happen. But each and every one of us needs to realize the players, especially those playing for the Dallas Cowboys, are only there to make money and don't want the same things the fans want.
Ranching says quit complaining and accept the league for what it is, and he's right to some extent. As fans we have to separate our priorities from the priorities of the players - they will no longer be the same as they were prior to the salary cap and free agency days. By the way, you can thank Jerry for a large part of that. His greed got that ball rolling.
