Saw him get blown off the line numerous times last night. Middling blocker at best. I think they have too many other contracts to worry about to keep Schultz in the fold.
It would have cost Dallas a 2nd round pick. Seems a bit high for Hockenson. They could probably use a 2nd round pick to find a similar or better TE in this draft. He's a terrible run blocker and doesn't stretch defenses. The other two guys are backups.
The Cowboys dropped the ball when the Lions gave away T.J. Hockenson. We should have been all over that. He's a real top tier TE just getting started in the league. That's a guy you pay not Dalton Schultz.
Agreed. It’s easy enough to go out and get a possession TE or receiver that can replace himHe's a terrible run blocker and doesn't stretch defenses. The other two guys are backups.

"After this game" doesn't mean "only on this game." But I bet last night was the sealer in Jerry's mind. He isn't letting Dak lose his security blanket. It will be more emotional than rational with Jerry.Lol lol after this game yeah ok let's base it off more than this. Maybe he'll be too much for us to afford
Be careful in assuming that. Schultz has a knack for making plays. He's productive. I wouldn't go crazy on him but losing him creates a unnecessary hole. They may think they have enough in Ferguson. I like what i've seen from him. Not for this year but maybe next year he and Hendershot should be ready.Agreed. It’s easy enough to go out and get a possession TE or receiver that can replace him
I mean I don’t disagree. But I think between Ferguson/Hendershot/McKeon you have enough talent where someone will step up and make playsBe careful in assuming that. I think Ferguson and Hendershot have a chance to become that. they are both first year players and Schultz is got too much experience over them.......after that game. He's Dak's security blanket, his Witten. Good things happen when Ferguson is thrown the ball, but the connection with Dak isn't quite there yet. Jerry will override Stephen and bring back Schultz. He won't break that connection up. I hope it won't cost us Pollard.
I agree. If Dallas wants a quality veteran tight end, it is going to cost money. Will that money be better off on other needs? Decisions will have to be made. No one wants to overpay Schultz, but he has been a steady producer the last few seasons. Steady production can be underappreciated at times. The Patriots are paying quite a bit for their tight end duo of Hunter Henry and Junno Smith and getting roughly the same production. I don't think Scultz is a must have, but he does provide something.Any player on the team can become too expensive to keep. It's always a cost/benefit question.
I get the debate about affordability. I'll never understand the debate about his skills. Schultz is a really good TE. Not elite, but not as easy to replace as some think either.
Trying to figure out how he could "try to be" the highest paid TE. He'll get offers. If a team wants to offer him such a contract, why in the world would he not take it? Is he supposed to say, "no, no, I'm not worth that much, please pay me less?"I just hope Schultz is willing to sign a fair deal and not try and be the highest paid TE
You might want to take a look at the game again.Agreed. It’s easy enough to go out and get a possession TE or receiver that can replace him
Agree completely, and I understand that you can't just plug and play a TE, but Kellen Moore runs a very TE friendly scheme and both the young guys have shown flashes in limited snaps. Coming into year two the Cowboys are in a really good spot at TE, which is something we really havent said with confidence in a few years.I think Ferguson and Hendershot have a chance to become that. they are both first year players and Schultz is got too much experience over them....
its where you want to spend your dollars and I rather not spend 12-13M on a TE. we need a DT, CB more than a TE.
Define fair. Why shouldn't he try to be the highest paid TE If given the opportunity? NFL careers are short. NFL injuries to the body are long. NFL owners pockets are deep. NFL tickets are high. NFL revenue is up.I just hope Schultz is willing to sign a fair deal and not try and be the highest paid TE
I don't know. I mean don't get me wrong the fan in me is like let him go and we should be ok. But I don't know if that's a fair opinion to have. I'll say this, if they use that money to sign a free agent i'm for it. If they use his money just to save it? I'd rather have Schultz. Depends on their approach.I mean I don’t disagree. But I think between Ferguson/Hendershot/McKeon you have enough talent where someone will step up and make plays
Ferguson nor Hendershot will develop a connection with Dak as long as Schultz is here. It the Witten situation all over. Still, I’m ok signing Schultz, just not at a highest, or near highest paid TE contract....after that game. He's Dak's security blanket, his Witten. Good things happen when Ferguson is thrown the ball, but the connection with Dak isn't quite there yet. Jerry will override Stephen and bring back Schultz. He won't break that connection up. I hope it won't cost us Pollard.
Yep that's right. They are not. I have watched them all year and they stink. Brady is done. We played very well however and took care of the lesser team like we should have for once!Tampa Bay is not a good team. I was happy with the way we played yesterday, especially it being on the road, but we shouldn’t extrapolate too much from it. I don’t think Schultz is worth what he’ll likely get on the market next year.
It's amazing to me how hard it is to fairly evaluate a player on here: guys are either massively overrated, massively underrated or both at the same time. Schultz is a very good player, a starting TE on well over half the teams in the league. He's not a great player that you break the bank for. The Cowboys shouldn't pay top dollar for him, and the Cowboys will likely take a step back at the TE position if they let him move on. Both things are true.Agreed. It’s easy enough to go out and get a possession TE or receiver that can replace him
