No way Notre Dame deserves a BCS game.

Once again, Notre Shame gets a pass while more deserving programs will be shunted off into lesser bowls or worse yet, be left out of the bowl picture entirely. Division I needs a playoff system in the worst way.

I agree that Notre Dame isn't a good team and they don't deserve a BCS game or top 10 ranking....but Quinn is bar none the best QB in college and it ain't really close.
My theory on it is that if you replace Quinn with an average QB, Notre Dame struggles to win 5 games this year. They just flat out aren't very talented. Their OL sucks. Their run game sucks. Their WRs drop passes. McKnight is terrible. The secondary is atrocious. Szmardja and Quinn are the lone bright spots.
I think Notre Dame has played better than they truly are and beat a lot of teams solely because of Quinn's stellar play and his stats tell the story. Yes he has racked up big numbers against some of the lesser opponents and struggled against the top flight teams but....some of his FEW INTs were dropped passes and those better defenses can dominate the ND OL which makes it tough for any QB to do anything. Add in WRs that can't make any plays and it'd be tough for anyone...even Romo.
I absolutely hate Notre Dame, but Quinn is flat out fun to watch and with a slightly better team, they'd be legit contenders. No one has made the observation that Notre Dame just does not have the talent level is used to, esp in the trenches.

He practically gave Michigan 21 points, he was awful today. Like I said, beating the service academys is a novelty.

YOu do realize that a good portion of his stats came in the last 5 minutes of the game when USC was playing way off? He STILL diddnt complete 50% of his passes, and was over throwing people and throwing the ball at the dirt in front of people. It was decent, but for the 'best QB in the country?' it sucked, it was no where close to the level of hype he has attained.

ummm... no they didn't......

The 60 yard run was in the first half...

The fourth down drop was a great pass... again in the first half...

His WR's let him down several times... The pass to Samardzidja was all on him...

His supporting cast was fumbling and dropping passes all game. He had them within 14 in the fourth...

As I said, I am not a Quinn fan, but saying his stats all came in the last five minutes of the game tells me 1) you weren't watching the game or 2) You hate Notre Dame/Quinn...

The level of hype he has says that he should beat a decent team once in his career. As much as that pass to Smardzija was on Quinn, as it was a good pass, he launched a few moon balls up and was lucky his WR's came down with them. For the best QB in the country supposedly and a sure fire top 5 pick, it wasnt good.

I'd take Chad Henne of the Wolverines over Brady Quinn any day of the week. I'd take Troy Smith as well. It's easy to put up Heisman numbers when you're playing against fluff teams and the academies.

Its so damn obvious, and yet people see Quinn go into hiding in yet ANOTHER big game and still think he is worth a damn.

Notre Dame is freaking overrated...and I hate listening to the media blow USC because they beat them. I still can't shake the poor games and loss to freaking Oregon State from my mind when it comes to USC.

Look, I'm no ND fan... or Quinn for that matter, but I thought he had a nice game today...

Several drops by WR's, he stuck it out and had some key runs and he threw the ball pretty well... He played a tough game...

I don't get the hate...

Nothing against Quinn here, he looks like a good QB prospect to me, but there has been a return of a bad taste in my mouth. For many years the Notre Dame hype machine has been dormant because they were so freakin bad they couldn't even beat the twinkies they scheduled for themselves,,, but now it's back and it's irritating, especially when your team is getting jobbed in the rankings (just like in the old days of the Big 8 when OU, Texas and Nebraska would all give eachother a loss and then get passed over by the likes of ND) ... The Return of Sour Grapes!

Troy Smith's best games, repeatedly, are against the best competition.

I really don't understand why so many on this board, at leat that I have read who posted concerning him, project him to such a low pick in the draft. He has the arm strength, pocket presence, he leads, he wins.

His height? Didn't they say Brees was too short to be successful as well? Aren't they about the same height?

I absolutely loved Quinn last year. I thought he was a sure-fire No. 1 overall pick.

The few times I've seen him this year, I've been far less impressed. Good prospect, to be sure, but far from what I expected him to be. I could certainly see an Aaron Rodgers-like fall on draft day. He'll be a first round pick, but I suspect he'll get eaten alive by the draft pundits between now and April.

ND has a lousy O line, not much int he way of RB's, and not much of a D. Quinn and Smardj carried this team. McKnight had a bad game at the worst possible time. He dropped passes that he caught all year. He catches some of them and this is a barn burner like last year. Clearly this team this year underperformed compared to last year. I put that on coaching- maybe not so much on Charlie but the D coaches and certainly the O line coaching- how does a group identical to last year play worse?
The haters like just say stupid things need to be ignored. They are like extreme skins. Quinn is the top QB in college football- every single pro scout has said he is the man. You get to see what a QB is all about in a game like yesterday. Trailing the whole game by several touchdowns, always having to face a rush and a D that knows you have to pass. Quinn did pretty damn good. Yes he had some bad throws- but look at how much pressure he had on him. Troy Smith NEVER has faced pressure like that- untill he does you do not know how he will react. Quinn has had it several times and he looked very good las t night in spite of all the drops. I counted at least 7 drops that absolutely should have been caught. At least one and probably 2 would have made TD's or put them right there. As many as 10 COULD have been caught.
Intersesting stat for the haters: NO INTERCEPTIONS. Look around for a game when the QB had to pass as much for the whole game as Quinn did and pass that much under those conditions and not have ONE INTERCEPTION AT ALL.
THAT is impressive. USC QB had 2.
8 of 23 in the first half- then 17 of 22 in the second half. USC was only in prevent the last 5-7 minutes at most. Most of the drops were in the first half as well. At least one and probably 2 tds as well as at least 7 passes and probably 100-150 yds were left on the field by easy drops.

Quinn may be the best QB as far as NFL Prospects go, but he is not the Best QB in football.

There is a difference.

Troy Smith is far and away the best College QB, Brady is the better NFL Prospect.

I would dig at Notre Dame over the loss and laugh as I do not like them...but hey my team choked this weekend because they were looking ahead so I will leave the hate away.:

Troy Smith also has the best team in college football. You put Troy on ND and Brady on OSU and then you would see the difference. Troy Smith has never had to face conditions Brady Quinn has faced virtually his whole time at ND.

And I'm sure Smith has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Ohio St being the best team.

Have you actually ever watched him play...because you either haven't or you aren't paying attention or as I suspect you're just such a Irish/Quinn homer that you just can't face/won't admit the truth.

Quinn is I'm sure in most NFL peoples eyes the better PRO prospect (Which I'm not sure of) but he is no way in hell the better College QB.

I totally agree. Wisconsin and Florida have the biggest gripes over USC at least they lost to ranked team. USC is the dirtiest program in college football and I would hate to see them back into the national championship. Dwayne Jarrett shouldn't even be playing this year he should have been suspended not to mention all of the Reggie Bush crap. Pete Carroll is just an absolute slimeball.

Cry me a river, why is it that the 'best QB in college football' goes into the witness protection program before big games? Make all the excuses you want, Troy Smith is better. Plays in a conference, plays his best in huge games (say like that time last year Ohio State destroyed Notre Dame).

I diddnt see you saying that Notre Dame wasnt that good of a team going into the game this week.
