I think Dez has 3 years left on his contract. Not sure though. I think he finishes it out whatever it is. But could be why Butler only got a 1 year deal too.
Dez needs to step it up though, so won't disagree at this point.
I do think they need to draft a WR with speed next year, in the 1st or 2nd round, depending other needs of course.

Butler signed his one year deal before we drafted Brown and resigned Terrence Williams. It probably had more to do with insurance in case Williams signed elsewhere than anyone they may have drafted two months later.

Agree with everything else though. And congratulations to Brown, he looked good all preseason, I hopened he keeps it up.

One can't help but wonder. Big contracts on the horizon for Martin, possibly Lawrence, and then Dak. And Dez is being paid top dollar. Not trying to run him out of town, but it stood out to me that they didn't rework his contract, even when they needed the money.

I like Dez. I'm sure the FO does too. But it makes little sense to pay a receiver top dollar in this offense. Arguably, it makes little sense to ever pay a receiver top dollar. Seattle, New England, Green Bay and the Giants have all shown fairly recently that you don't need an elite receiver to win it all. So it wouldn't be surprising if the team is looking to cut ties after paying out a big chunk of what has turned out to be a bad contract.

I like Dez. I'm sure the FO does too. But it makes little sense to pay a receiver top dollar in this offense. Arguably, it makes little sense to ever pay a receiver top dollar. I'm not sure I'm ready to make a blanket statement about "not needing a top receiver" , but what I do know is that Bryant isn't one right now. He's paid like one, but doesn't consistently perform like one.

There are far too many games when he is shut down to be worth his current salary. The return on investment just isn't there.

And while I hope that he would be smart enough to know when the time comes for his salary to start trending down, I'm not sure if that will be the case. I hope so, but I'm not sure as he's an emotional guy.

I'd have no problem reworking his deal for lower money to keep him a Cowboy for life, I'm just not sure if he would agree with me.

But holy hell, I can't stop laughing at this point. Some of you have lost your damn minds.

A 7th round pick goes out, makes his first NFL catch on some in route and within 3 days of said catch you come here and find out he's going to be great, he's going to make Dez expendable, grow into one of the best WRs in the league.

There's optimism and then there's hitting the Wild Turkey bottle a little too much too early in the morning.

I think the one thing this team is lacking is a mid size burner that runs terrific routes.

They reworked all of their other big money deals. Tyron, Frederick, and Lee. They intentionally left Bryant's alone. That wasn't by accident.



And Martin's deal will be north of $12 million a year, Lawrence would cost almost $18 million to tag, with a deal north of Stafford's $27 million a year for Prescott after next season. To say nothing of the rise of Smith's and Frederick's reworked deals.

That money is gone as soon as they get it.



My point is that he's not performing up to his salary now. And they've kept the option for themselves to be able to get out of the deal if they choose to, or need to. And when players don't live up to contracts, they don't keep them very long.

Dak is not making anywhere near $27 per yr unless he improves drastically as a passer. If I'm Dallas he will get Russel Wilson type of money.

Then make sure you have your franchise tag available. Repeatedly. And even then, you'll be paying him top money on a year to year basis like Washington and Cousins.
