Nolan / NT

I know it looks like a pipe dream at this point, but if we got Brown and put Collins off tackle next to him, man that would be nasty inside.

Utah has been putting out some good DT's the past few years. I like the way Fotu comes off the ball, especially for a big man. He gets asked to two gap a lot, but when he gets to pin his ears back you can see he has some burst. Good upper body strength to shed offensive lineman. Throws them like ragdolls often. I felt he was just average at anchoring against the double team though. Sometimes holding up well but occasionally getting washed out. Only watched USC and Oregon games though.

2019 season, when opposing teams ran wide, the Cowboys gave up a 3.6 yds/rush but when team ran up the middle, that stat was close to doubled 6.2yd / rush.

In comes Mike Nolan and his different approach to the defense......

Where is this from and how is it sourced? B/c those numbers don't exist anywhere that I can find. The Cowboys gave up 4.1 ypc. https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/team...able/rushing/sort/yardsPerRushAttempt/dir/asc

Sharp has them at about even in YPC at left end and middle, but they gave up way more explosives on the left side (which makes sense, b/c Quinn sucks). The Cowboys gave up 13 explosive runs on 84 attempts at LT and outside, but just 15 on 147 between the guards on first and second down. Obviously, they were strongest on the right side, b/c DLaw. https://www.sharpfootballstats.com/directional-rushing-production--def-.html

This thread just seems based on false numbers.

we need a dominating NT and a couple lunchpail fatty's to clog the middle. Right now we have too many light weight diva's...maybe fast, but too much finesse.

No, we don't. Those players do not matter.

FWIW, Football Outsiders, in the DL ratings had this:

Left end - 4.34
Left tackle - 3.91
Center/G - 4.42
Right Tackle - 2.78
Right end - 3.43

We were average or below average based on the numbers when defending teams running to their left side and up the middle but above league average when teams ran towards Lawrence's side (at least that's how I read the number).

That sounds right, it's closer to Sharp's numbers.

I just don't know where 6.2 comes from.

Collins is gone....Woods could be signed...Collins is overrated & too inconsistent

Collins is a disruptive off tackle who was asked to play over tackle. When allowed to play off, he's been pretty good. He can also be resigned for relatively cheap is my guess. Not sure how he's "overrated" though. I'm literally the only person in here suggesting this. He had four sacks while splitting time and playing out of position frequently. I'll take that as a rotational guy on the cheap.

Then why are final 4 teams almost always littered w/ them?

This is your personal idea, and even though it keeps being proven incorrect, you keep reiterating it.

Collins is being forced to play NT way too often. He's a guy who disrupts the LOS, but he doesn't anchor well. He needs that anchor next to him, just as Sapp needed Booger.

No, it hasn't been proven incorrect, because it is made up, especially relative to the idea that they are required to stuff the run. Remaining teams rush yards per attempt allowed rankings:

Titans - 7
Vikings - 18
Ravens - 21
49ers - 23
Packers - 26
Texans - 27
Seahawks - 28
Chiefs - 29

Passing NY/A:

49ers - 1
Chiefs - 5
Ravens - 6
Vikings - 7
Packers - 16
Titans - 19
Seahawks - 24
Texans - 25

Offensive Passing Y/A:

Titans - 1
49ers - 2
Chiefs - 5
Vikings - 6
Seahawks - 8
Texans - 11
Ravens - 12
Packers - 17

But please, keep telling me how stopping the run should be a priority, and how the fat guys who stop the run are crucial to getting to the Super Bowl.

It is a passing league. The run game doesn't matter.

San Fran was 8th in y/a. Baltimore's an outlier because of Jackson. Both were top 10 in passing y/a.

Don't cherry pick. SF has more attempts, you said the run game doesn't matter, it was a passing league but SF has more runs than passes. Tell NE rushing doesn't matter as Henry ran all over 'em and they couldn't score from the 1 yard line.

2019 rushing Y/PG

SF #1
Balt #2
Tenn #3
Seattle #4

All 4 teams in the playoffs.

Exactly what I've been saying. I think Collins will be cheap, which could make him the best option. If we can get Kinlaw or Brown in the draft and stick them next to Collins, that's a plus DT setup right there.
