Is it the same Robert Jordan who blew up the fascists' bridge in For Whom the Bell Tolls?

(believe me, that's hilarious if you were an English Lit major :) )

Keeping with the Lit theme, Robert Jordan is also a pretty well known Fantasy author I believe.

I read in article in ESPN the magazine he wanted to go to USC but turned them down due to thme not giving his jersey number because it was promised to another recruit. According to the article that kind of spurn him and motivated him to bring out his A game against USC.

DeSean Jackson's A game vs. USC

Freshman: 1 catch for 9 yards 0 TDs
Sophomore: 2 catches for 41 yards 0 TDs
Junior: 5 catches for 64 yards and 0 TDs

Motivation only takes you so far.

I just Googled "DeSean Jackson attitude" and there's enough there to write a book.

The Madrid bombing thing was a link to another story that included an FBI agent named Robert Jordan, not the Robert Jordan who played at Cal.

I thought he was talking about the recently deceased James Oliver Rigney, Jr (AKA Pen Name Robert Jordan Wheel of Time and Conan author) :D

Funny as well that someone was on one of the stations today, ESPN or NFL Network, and said that he really enjoyed talking with D Mac and that he was incredibly humble.

This morning when Norm had Goose on they were talking about teams avoiding players with character in the draft. Goose, mentioned Darren McFadden and DeSean Jackson. Now, McFadden's off the field issues had been well documented but that's the first I've heard about any negative issues with DeSean Jackson.

Anyone else hear that and more importantly does anyone know what he could be alluding to?

I emailed Goose..

Here's what I got back on Jackson.

'Very high maintenance, even for a skill player.'

Humility is not his problem. That's Jackson's problem.

McFadden gets into scraps at bars.

Interesting. Makes me wonder how much of this will come out on draft day.

I'm assuming the references were to his 'attitude' issues...He's been well documented to be a bit of a prima donna at Cal and has been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team...Kinda one of those guys where when things are good, he's in line but if not, a problem...Not Antonio Bryant problem but problem.

If I'm a GM, I'm maybe more concerned about the fact that he's under 5'10" and 169 lbs...The Steve Smith argument comes to mind but then again, there aren't a lot of Steve Smith's...Or, that he's had a history of thigh/hamstring problems...recurring, mind you.

Cal fans will tell you that when push came to shove in big games, Desean wasn't there so take it for what it's worth.

Thanks. I actually have a few friends who are really close to the Cal football program (and my lady is a grad) and although none of them have ever mentioned your "insight" on his fair weather attitude I was curious as to whether or not he had any legal issues that scouts may have discovered from talking to coaches and trainers on campus.

Attitude, not a big problem. Not sure if I would want a WR without a little 'tude.

My 'insight' is taken directly from Cal students, I personally have no take on his 'issues' as I don't know much about him...The suspensions are real and draw concerns.

But, hey, if attitude isn't a problem, how about this prospect?

You mean a stabbing people in the neck with scissors problem or a throw his jersey in your face problem?

or do you mean a "I'm going to stomp on your face with my cleats in front of a national TV audience" sort of Albert Haynesworth anger management problem..?

or a "I still think we are the better team even though we lost the playoff game" sort of blind as a bat problem like Wade Phillips has..?

Hey, I did said thanks! :)

My info is also from Cal students (some former) who actually know him and my good friend, a Berkley police officer who played football at Cal and works on the field security for all the home games.

I'm not saying that my intel' is better than yours but as someone who actually lives here in the Bay Area, attends several Cal football games a year, who works with more Cal grads that you can shake a stick at (not to mention the one I lay next to) and did I mention my buddy who is a former player and officer for the campus police? Just seems really weird that they never mentioned your "insight" on him. Perhaps the people you know who actually know him have different opinions.

There are enough tinkle contest on this board and this doesn't need to be another but I will call B.S. when I see it.

and B.T.W. For every Antonio Bryant you can do your little Google image searches on, I can find twice as many Michael Irvin's in NFL history who had just as much attitude and twice the talent. I wonder now that Irvin has been brought into the conversation if your perspective on attitude (with respect to WR's) will be amended?

I thought I was the only Kevin Smith fan around.

I'd love for the Cowboys to take him at #28, if he's still around.

He doesn't have a "bad" personality problem, he just has a bit of an ego and he's a bit of a primo dona. Some have called him a "pretty boy" WR, since he's a finesse type player that doesn't like to be played physically. I've read that he only runs the routes that he likes to run, and if asked to run a route that's not appealing to him he'll loaf (ala R.Moss). Also, he doesn't like blocking or going over the middle. These aren't real character issues, he's just a finesse type of player.

Those are deal killers. I'd run from him faster than Jones. Football players play football.
