No he isn't. And don't give me any tackle stats please. The MLB should make all the tackles in a defense. How many does he have for a loss? How many passes has he defended? Watch the change when Hitch is back and he is just above a JAG.

Ummm, Jaylon is on pace to more than double Hitchens numbers from a year ago.

Ummmm show me a splash play? None.

Look I'm not against Jaylon, I want ND Jaylon bad. It's just not there yet. I'm sorry the eyes don't lie. He is getting torched in the passing game right now.

ND Jaylon may not be there yet, but he is hardly lower than a JAG as you imply and you seem to forget this is his rookie season. Jack was much worse a year ago and now is starting to live up to the projections. Let's give Jaylon a chance.

It is if he sits there 5 yards off the line of scrimmage and waits for the runner to come to him like he has been, hence the tackles. Sad....very sad.

What if he's being coached to do that? They trust Lee to commit early because he's like a 7 year vet. They might be telling Jaylon to wait and make sure.

Expectations are way too high at this point. This boy hasn't played any football in 2 years and to expect him, coming off such a major injury, to be snot knocking NFL offenses is simply unrealistic. Maybe, maybe by the end of the season we will see some progress.

he’s obviously dealing with the foot drop but if you look at his play, it almost seems he’s backpedaling too much. he’s not attacking like he used to at ND. seems hesistant. he kinda waits to see where the runner is going and then he closes in. (5 yards downfield) he needs to just go...

Those in love with stats need to remember what Mark Twain said about them:

"There are LIES.
There are DAMN LIES.
THEN there are statistics"

Mark Twain also said "Cloths make the man
naked people have little or no influence on society"

or football games so all my team will be required to wear their uniforms

Man do people watch games? Tackle stats aren't impressive when they happen 10 yards downfield.

Also why is he so slow? (Not directed at you, just an observation)

I do watch the games, and I do agree that a lot of his tackles (and assists) come downfield. Someone suggested that he has been better than Lee because he had only 1 less total tackle in fewer snaps than Lee, and I pointed out where the tackles are coming and how many of Lee's were solo.

My comment was directly in comparison to Hitchens....who plays the same position as Smith and some people are trying to hype as some difference making LB. Smith is well above his pace for any year he has played, so using him as a comparison is pretty ridiculous.

I give Smith a pass as this is basically his rookie year, and a lot of rookies struggle adjusting to the game. He does do some good things but he just isn't ther 100% with his health or the scheme.

As for being slow, it has been hit or miss. He had that one play in the first game where he ran down a running back and it was like he was shot out of a cannon. Other times he seems pedestrian. I think that just shows he isn't close to 100% physically.

He is a liability in coverage right now and we are expecting way way too much from this kid considering where he is in his recovery. He is a two down LB right now at best and cannot cover the flat. It is evident and this will be an issue as teams pick up on that and expose him.

Let me say that he was one of my all time favorite players at ND and I love this kid. He is just not ready to be a three down LB right now. Down the road, hopefully yes, right now no.

I am as positive as you can be when talking about Jaylon but you can tell that he has lost his fluidity and change of direction quickness which is paramount when playing LB. He is getting better by all reports and I hope it continues.

The rookie is doing pretty good. It will take time for him to adjust to the NFL playing speed and learn to read the plays better.

when you say he is doing pretty good what do you mean? Do you mean for guy coming back from serious injury then yes I agree. But if you mean pretty good compared to rest of linebackers in NFL then I disagree.
