Why are you asking me this? You watch the games. You see his hesitation to cut and move laterally. You see him being targeted and targeted effectively. Over and over.

Ask someone else these questions.

I really wasn't asking you, and I fully understand your point. We all know Jaylon Smith is a better story right now than a football player. He's nowhere near being ready to play as much as the Cowboys have made him play. And that's not Smith's fault, it's the coaches' fault.

Dam, he got totally washed out of the play. If he cant shed blockers and fill the lane better than this, he is going to be a major liability. Teams are going to design plays to go right at him until he shows he can peel off a blocker and fill the lane.

One thing that might be a problem is leg strength. He might not have the strength to shield, peel, and fill like a MLB needs to. If he is unable or unwilling to put that much strain on his knee for fear of it giving out, that could be a problem too going forward.

I am not ready to write the kid off and the fact he is playing is a miracle itself, but if you want an absolute honest evaluation of his play right now, well its not good and teams are going to target him in both the run and pass game. May not be fair, but it is what it is.
Your last paragraph says it all. From an outsiders POV I think it's a minor miracle the guy is on the field already. I think next year will be time to judge if he has a chance of being the player he was in college. He's coming back from a serious major injury, it's going to take time.

I'm not really sure it's the coaches fault either though, it's just where we are at. Hitch has been hurt as well as Lee last game, there really was no choice. I think in the long run this is all a blessing in disguise. Accelerated learning.

This team shouldn't be spending time waiting for a miracle to happen with draft picks.
All I can do now is hope, like so many are forced to, and speak of his production to this point.

I heard someone in Chicago asked Butkus about todays players and his entire responsive was four letter words and derivatives.

Would love to hear what Lambert would have to say; even in the late 70's he said all QBs should wear skirts.
Butkus wouldn't have the coverage ability to function as a full time LB in the modern NFL.

oh BS. His leg is just fine. This is all about being for all intents and purposes a rookie. The Dallas D plays everything completely different then what he had at Notre Dame. It will take time for him to figure it out.

Lol I thought it was for all intensive
purposes
this whole time.. I'm a dummy

he was a bad pick at the the time and still is for a team that wants to win to wait two years on a second round player is silly

With so many defensive needs, only JJ would continually waste picks on project players...

I can't believe how many people want this dude to be at an All-Pro level and he is just playing REAL football in over a year. I expect him to have growing pains. He is doing well considering he was supposed to be coming in slowly.

Not much said today, but that was......ugh.

Hitchens, hurry up.

This is a shame. I feel bad for this man. He was a world class talent in college. Wow was he good. He was dynamic. He was a vame changer. He had star written all over him. Then he got hurt. Not just hurt but devastingly hurt. Its not his fault. The man just cant run anymore. He lacks the burst. The explosivines. Its a shame. Which leads to me to scratch my head why we made this pick in the first place. This defense has stunk for 20 years so why on earth did we think we were good enough to waste a second rd pick on a guy that the whole planet knew he was not going to play last year. Why. Was our defense that good that we can waste a second rd pick on a guy that would not play a down last year? To me it made zero sense. Zero. We need help and needed help now ( meaning last year) i respect this man and i lpve hos work ethic. He is a good man. But the fact if the matter is he can not run anymore. He lost his burst and quocknesd that made him great. And he was great. But we still insit on drafting thwse projects like we win every year. I just dont get it. This pick made no sense in the 2nd rd for a defense that stinls and really needeed immediate help.

I agree completely, there is nothing wrong with picking Jaylon, the problem is the position where he was picked. As you clearly stated it's not as if Dallas has had a outstanding defense and could afford a luxury pick. Their defense needs help right now, they would have been better served drafting the best available(healthy) player instead drafting Jaylon in the 2nd round.
