You are the most fear safety in the league and by far the most physical. Please use that physicality(sp) to your advantage in the redzone or goaline situation. You "chuck" Clark for an interception! Great play....but then later you allowed him a free release that resulted in a TD. See my point?! You can hit ANYONE within 5 yds of LOS....so use it to your advantage. Once you hit the TE/WR, most of the time they are on the ground or the timing is so off that the QB won't even look your way. Please remember that INT in the first half and use that technique to take advantage of your biggest asset.

PS. nice hit on the TE! It should be on Jacked Up tonight!

He was playing off because the LB that was on him came on the blitz. He wasn't on the LOS when the play started.

It was a bad position to put him in.

Roy plays zone coverage great. He utterly stinks at man to man coverage. That probably isn't going to change.

I agree. All I ask from Roy is don't kill our own guys. Man he laid a big hit on Henry as he was coming over to help but missed the WR and nailed Henry. All in all Roy played a good game along with the other guys on defense.

exactly..

not to mention, he is second in the NFL in total takeaways..

oh, and then there is that whole "most feared hitter in the NFL" thing..

and I don't know any official stats, but he has had to have made more plays on goalline stands than anyone in the league..

I know we can't have an ALL world Roy but just want him to know that he should use the "rule" to his advantage and cover his biggest weakness.

That's why they're safeties. Same thing happened with Dawkins yesterday. Allowed a TD and made a bad read ona ball he could have picked off in the end zone.

Plus, let Newman make the pick, don't come in and break it up. :)

J/K, ... Roy had a great game, the whole defense did !!

True, Newman has a big pick had Roy not come in and knocked it out. I do agree Roy and the rest of the defense played a very good game.

Look, we've seen this a couple of times this season. When the TE does a double move inside then outside, Roy cannot stick with them, as well as most CB's. The good ones anticipate the move and have the quickness to recover, and we all know that quickness is not Roy's strong suit. I don't really blame him because he has to make a choice, 1st move or 2nd. If the pass is great, the defender really has no chance and it doesn't matter if it is RW or anyone else.

That's right. If the LB didn't blitz it's his job to reroute the slot receiver. If Roy lined up on the guy, he'd be tipping Manning off that it was man coverage anyhow.

Also first in scaring the snot out of the Colts receivers.

Don't pretend that any safety in the NFL can handle Clark playing off like Roy was last night. Maybe that was on him being that far back, but I doubt it.

a player good at man to man coverage are usually called corner backs... not strong safeties. That's why I can overlook his goofs in coverage and his sometimes poor angles he takes. I didn't like it at the time but his hit on Newman to knock away the interception looked like just like he was aiming for Newman if he was the intended reciever and purposely trying to blast him, kinda funny looking.

This is not the "bash Roy" week IMO. A couple of weeks ago, even I bashed him, but this ain't the time. Okay, he allowed a TD, but he also saved one by knocking the TE down, and intercepting the pass. That makes him even.

And BTW, that hit on the TE made the Colts receivers panic on high passes, resulting in numerous dropped passes.

I just wish he would figure out what uniform the other team is wearing. He's going to knock out some of our own sooner or later.:laugh2:

Cheers to Roy, he's a great player for us.

You must not pay attention to very many safeties.

Some don't understand how football is played.

On goalline situations you're playing run and pass with little margin for error.

Roy plays close to the TE, he gets blocked if it's a run play.

He plays too close to the TE, the TE shakes him. (It's easy to shake a guy who's playing close to you.)

You track the receiver and the quarterback either runs or throws the ball to the spot you vacated.

It's not a static position, playing safety and playing on the goal line.

It's constant motion. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
