Look, we've seen this a couple of times this season. When the TE does a double move inside then outside, Roy cannot stick with them, as well as most CB's. The good ones anticipate the move and have the quickness to recover, and we all know that quickness is not Roy's strong suit. I don't really blame him because he has to make a choice, 1st move or 2nd. If the pass is great, the defender really has no chance and it doesn't matter if it is RW or anyone else.

Thats why he needs to be up on the line where he can use his size and strength to bump the TE and throw the timing of the play off. It really bugs me that Zimmer still doesnt get the fact that Roy is not good at coverage in space and he continues to put in him those situations.

I dont buy the argument that if he plays too close to the line of scrimmage he is going to be blocked by the TE. Roy should win that matchup every time.

Some don't understand how football is played.

On goalline situations you're playing run and pass with little margin for error.

Roy plays close to the TE, he gets blocked if it's a run play.

He plays too close to the TE, the TE shakes him. (It's easy to shake a guy who's playing close to you.)

You track the receiver and the quarterback either runs or throws the ball to the spot you vacated.

It's not a static position, playing safety and playing on the goal line.

It's constant motion. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

very true.

Neither one of us knows exactly what Roy needed to be doing on that play. In fact, it looked like there was some confusion by both players DBs on that side as to what was supposed to happen. Either way, there is very little margin for error and Roy was seemingly more worried about Clark inside than cutting out. Clark's a very good TE, let's not kid ourselves. I'm just tired of hearing all this crap about Roy, who is, and has been, as good a safety as there is in the NFL for the past couple years. There anren't many who even approach the level of playmaking ability and consistency he brings. And none are better.

Roy plays zone coverage great. He utterly stinks at man to man coverage. That probably isn't going to change.

I dunno seems like the times he lost the flight of the ball he was in zone.

My note to Roy:

I love you man.
I know you're not perfect ... no one is ... especially no one in The Zone. I'd like to see one of them play your position and see how they fare.

That's why they're safeties. Same thing happened with Dawkins yesterday. Allowed a TD and made a bad read ona ball he could have picked off in the end zone.

Really? I thought a strong safety is supposed to have the coverage ability of a shut-down corner.;)

At least that impression I get from these news reports decrying Roy's coverage skills.

Looked like he played off the line as part of the disguise for Ware blitzing. Also looked like he tried to take away a quick, inside pattern by Clark because he knew Ware was blitzing. That is the easier pass for the QB. When the blitz, pressure did not reach Manning, Clark had room and time to move back outside. Tough spot for Roy. I am not saying he can't do better, but that isn't the easiest position for the safety. He also just could not come running up to Clark to hit him because he needed to stay back to maintain the disguise in the coverage.

And hes first in bad angles and getting beat in the end zone...

I'm sure you have a stat to back that up.

Because I have lots of stats to show that Roy is one of the league leaders in INTs and passes defended.

Or are you just mindlessly ******** because you like to complain?

That's what I thought. :horse:
