I'll never forget this. I agree with what Jerry had to say about it. I've always thought so.

  • On November 24, 1991, the 6–5 Cowboys handed the then unbeaten 11–0 Commanders their first defeat and their only defeat at home that season, 24–21. Despite the loss the Commanders would finish 14–2 and go on to win the Super Bowl XXVI. The Cowboys, motivated by the victory, would reel off a 6-game win streak, finishing 11–5; Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would later tell The Washington Post that he believed this victory was a key turning point in the Cowboys' transformation into the dominant team they would become for much of the decade.[13]

This is a very important anniversary in Dallas Cowboys history. :starspin:

Good thread. I'm not certain what the future holds for this franchise but these final six games could serve as a catalyst for not just this season but the seasons to come. It's time for Romo's teammates to step up and regularly execute their assignments. That's how championship teams are born.

Unfortunately, I've never found that to be the case. Yes, there have been some instances where teams look like they picked up where they left off from the previous season, but just as many instances (if not more) where a "hot" team at the end of one season becomes really "cold" the very next season. It's a nice thought but I think it's safe to say that if we fail to make the playoffs, this season has been nothing but an unmitigated disaster.

But yes, it's time for Romo's teammates to step up. Like right now.

I think a lot of the inconsistencies in team records from one year to the next is due, in large part, to the way the leagues sets up schedules based on order of finish (first place teams have a tougher schedule than last place teams). Parity at its best...

I remember this game. And if my memory serves me right, E. Smith went off....

I remember thinking to my self..."they cant stop him". It was my-first real indication or introduction to how good E smith was and could be. I remember thinking to myself. Just give him the ball..........and keep giving it to him....were getting chunks of 10-15 yards every other run.

I think that was the game. I know it was against the Commanders....and the Commanders were really good in those years. Hogs, etc etc

I have that game on dvd. The bigger thing that happened in that game, IMO, was that Michael Irvin absolutely owned Darrell Green. Prior to that game teams had been staying away from DG, and rightly so. But Troy and Irvin went right at him all game long. Also, we went for it on 4th down two or three times, including I believe a 4th and 9. We also kicked an onside kick after a second quarter TD, recovered it and then followed it with a bomb to Alvin Harper. Troy got knocked out of the game, but we had Beuerlein and he was able to hold on for the win. Even he went to Michael when Darrell was covering him.

The Cowboys have had good luck against undefeated teams they beat the 11-0 Commanders in 91, the 9-0 Colts in 2006 and the 13-0 Saints in 2009. The only negative is all those teams went on to win the Super Bowl.

This to. It was just huge all the way around. We converted two of three fourth down plays. The triplets put the NFL on notice that day.

Looking at the stats...Emmitt had 34 carries for 132 yards that day. Troy went down in the first half of that game...he didn't return until our playoff game vs. the Detroit Lions in January. Beuerlein took over the game and the rest of the season. There was actually a controversy as to whether Beuerlein should keep the starting job. Go figure.

Remember the game as if it was yesterday, Irvin owned Green and Johnson coached to win and pulled out all the stops. Onside kick, and Hail Mary to Harper. Still have it somewhere around here on VHS.
