didnt we beat the undefeated Saints in their super bowl year?
I believe so...

Didn't we also give them their first loss in '89?
Looking at the stats...Emmitt had 34 carries for 132 yards that day. Troy went down in the first half of that game...he didn't return until our playoff game vs. the Detroit Lions in January. Beuerlein took over the game and the rest of the season. There was actually a controversy as to whether Beuerlein should keep the starting job. Go figure.
Remember the game as if it was yesterday, Irvin owned Green and Johnson coached to win and pulled out all the stops. Onside kick, and Hail Mary to Harper. Still have it somewhere around here on VHS.

I have that game on dvd. The bigger thing that happened in that game, IMO, was that Michael Irvin absolutely owned Darrell Green. Prior to that game teams had been staying away from DG, and rightly so. But Troy and Irvin went right at him all game long. Also, we went for it on 4th down two or three times, including I believe a 4th and 9. We also kicked an onside kick after a second quarter TD, recovered it and then followed it with a bomb to Alvin Harper. Troy got knocked out of the game, but we had Beuerlein and he was able to hold on for the win. Even he went to Michael when Darrell was covering him.
I have a ton of those VHS tapes too. And no player.
I'll never forget this. I agree with what Jerry had to say about it. I've always thought so.

- On November 24, 1991, the 6–5 Cowboys handed the then unbeaten 11–0 Commanders their first defeat and their only defeat at home that season, 24–21. Despite the loss the Commanders would finish 14–2 and go on to win the Super Bowl XXVI. The Cowboys, motivated by the victory, would reel off a 6-game win streak, finishing 11–5; Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would later tell The Washington Post that he believed this victory was a key turning point in the Cowboys' transformation into the dominant team they would become for much of the decade.[13]
This is a very important anniversary in Dallas Cowboys history.
