I have seen the highlights of that game so many times and it brings a smile to my face every time. Its always nice to beat the Commanders - especially when given little to no chance after we lost our leader.

Also scoring more than 20 would have a high probability of a W... Even though we were blown out ( my words) we gifted them 14 and allowed 1 TD, and multiple FG's... D held them to 19 earned pts......

Romo gifted 17. The 2 pick 6s then the 3rd pick was already in field goal range

I was at that game with my mother, brother and grandfather. I remember it well ;)!!

I was at that game with my dad and brother. We were regretting the decision to go after the Cowboys fell behind and Staubach got knocked out. We all wanted to see Roger play not some rookie backup. We tried getting tickets for the Cowboys/Dolphins the previous Thanksgiving and couldn't but it ended up for the best because they lost that game. Was only able to attend one Cowboys game at Texas stadium and it ended up a classic.

I was sitting in the living room, 10 and a half years old, eating pumpkin pie with cool whip at the card table set up in the middle of the room. I was quite joyful when Dramatic Drew hauled in that pass from Longley with about 28 seconds left in the game.

On this day in Dallas Cowboys history:

........one of the most memorable Thanksgiving Day games in Cowboys history. Trailing 16–3 in the second half (and having already lost quarterback Roger Staubach to injury), little used backup Clint Longley threw two touchdown passes to lead the team to a 24–23 victory over the Commanders at Texas Stadium.

Those were happier times.

Actually 1974 wasn't a happy time that was the first season since 1965 the Cowboys missed the playoffs. They went 8-6 that season and a 47 year old George Blanda threw a TD pass against the Cowboys in the season finale that helped keep them from making the playoffs. It appeared the Cowboys were a declining team in 74 but they had a great draft in 75 with 12 rookies (the dirty dozen) making the team. That draft produced Randy White and Thomas Henderson which got the Cowboys back on track.

Damn some of yawl are old.:muttley:

Yeah, tell me about it that's the only bad thing about reliving these old games I keep thinking about how young I was back then. A few weeks before that 74 game my mom asked me to run into a grocery store and grab a box of napkins for her tupperware party. I saw a box that said "feminine napkins" and grabbed those thinking they would be perfect for a party with all women. I'll never forget the look on my moms face when she saw that box.

Man, those Landry teams really showed up to play. They didn't give a damn who you were, they wanted to punch you in the mouth. All that and the guy was still a class act off the field.

This franchise has been so fortunate to have been blessed with amazing talent on the field and in the front office.
