This version of the Cowboys has some powerful components. The OC is pitching a great game plan for the season and thew players are executing like a Saturday night in Huntsville, Texas.

Maranelli is working magic with game plans and the team speed is unreal. reminds me of a Jimmy built team where the defense was swarming to the ball with speed and toughness.

But there are a couple of issues which need addressing.

1. Fumbles - Garrett needs to solve this. It needs to come from on high and resolve this issue. The team cannot count on a favorable outcome when they lose the turnover game each week. They were the better team on Sunday, but that title of being better changes from week to week. And turnovers play a huge role in this.

2. Relying on improbably third down results - The throw and catch to TWill was amazing. The throw to Dez the week before against the Texans was a catch we all will remember. But third and twenty with four minutes and change becomes a different story if Dallas had to punt.

They beat the snot out of the Seattles all day long. But it wouldn't matter if the Cowboys were forced into stopping the Seattles who had the lead.

These two issues are linked.

And Garrett can show he is the One by resolving these issues. His will should be leveled on the team to perform better.

All the greatness of beating Seattle goes away if the team shoots itself in the foot.

It is this realm where the truly great coaches take very good teams and impose his coaching on them to execute.

Let's see it, Red.

Good stuff.

And something I've alluded to in a few posts.

Everybody is thrilled with our record, but rather than see anyone resting on their laurels, I'd like to see some of these gaffes - like we had against both Houston and Seattle - cleaned up before they do cost the team a victory.

They flat out dominated the Seahawks and it would have been even sweeter if the final score actually reflected that dominance.

And there were some self-inflicted mistakes that allowed the Texans to take that game to overtime as well.

I think if these few mistakes can be eliminated, we could be in for a truly special season.

on #2...
You are speaking of just two plays out of how many 3rd and shorts? You address #2 like it happens all the time.

I don't think it matters what this team does. Jason Garrett will never get credit for success in Dallas. I'm already hearing/reading how Garrett has been "successfully neutered," that he's nothing but a puppet and how the team is winning despite him.

If he wins a playoff game, posters like me will still believe the above is true and still believe he warrants an extension. He should be rewarded for being the HC of a playoff winning team. That's been the problem. Things have changed in coaching personnel that are clearly displayed on the field. Skeptics simply disagree about attributing all this success to his coaching (replaced recently) or a master plan of his that has been in the works that is only NOW being expressed after 4 years of implementation.

Maybe your title should read: "Now Garrett HAS silenced the Naysayers - like me..."

But, then again as VACowboy says, Garrett will never get credit for success with some... You know, Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson weren't perfect. And, they had players that fumbled. And, good plays happened by players in their games that saved their bacon. Neither, by the way, that have anything to do with coaching...

But, continue to have unreasonable expectations. That way, there is plenty to be negative and critical about...

I don't think that's true.

I've been a highly outspoken critic of his, and I feel rightly so.

But that doesn't mean I can't or won't give him credit for having this team playing so well.

The current structure and dynamic is working better than I had ever hoped and I would like to see things continue.

If Jerry gave him an extension this week, I really couldn't complain about it. But that doesn't look like it's going to happen, so we'll wait to see how the rest of the season goes.

So far, so good.

I didn't say he has done anything to deserve an extension. I said he'll never get credit for success in Dallas and that people are already downplaying his role in the team's success thus far in 2014.

You're right. I should have said "Some people will never give him credit."

Who you talking bout?:D:facepalm: But some of the points I ranted on are the sources for those posts of downplaying his role, or the changes in philosophy etc.

Jerry doesn't need to make any decisions on coaching until the end of the year. And he surely doesn't need to be making decisions on Garrett right now, knowing that Bill Callahan is in the last year of his contract and how he was dead-set on leaving in the off-season and he did not want to stay.

Marinelli is in the last year of his contract as well. If you sign Garrett and these guys bounce, Marinelli maybe wanting to go to Tampa with Lovie, and Callahan doesn't want to coach the OL and wants an OC position to actually call his offense, and he's surely going to get looked at the way he has developed this OL, then what...

Jerry has no power to stop them contractually after this year and he may have to dole out serious cash...

I think there are things that need to be cleaned up but I think most of the time you will come out of a game knowing there are things that need to be cleaned up. I think Jason and the rest of the staff know very well that the miscues and turnovers need to stop and will continue to work with players so that they won't.

Agreed; except I would prefer that JJ wait until the off season to make a decision (playoff win). He would likely get one anyway but it would likely put an "extra" fire under JG to really maximize all breaks/opps on top of the adrenaline that would naturally come with that edge (job hinging on team performance...for real this time:D).

Thats not exactly true. People here don't hate him. They just hate his playcalling which has been atrocious for many years. That stigma just doesn't go away in a snap.

I actually like his new role now of just cheering the team on and agreeing with his assist coaches. The less we have Garrett calling the plays the better. Call it addition by subtraction.
