I have wanted one of these for a LONG time...

And well, so I had a meeting with myself tonight...

And I tried to come up with a reason why I needed an 18th guitar...

And I couldn't.

But it didn't stop me from buying it... :) because this guitar incorporates two of my favorite things...a guitar AND the Dallas Cowboys.

Very nice. I've been thinking about getting an acoustic guitar lately. They are not real high end guitars but I like the sound of the round body ovations.

I have an Ovation...it's not very versatile. It's got that Ovation sound which is great if it's the sound you're looking for...

I got it after hearing Bernie William's album...

I got my Ovation not long after attending a Loggins & Messina concert, where both Jimmy and Kenny played Ovations during their acoustic set... not long after that, I saw a video of Paul Simon playing one of their black guitars, and I thought that thing looked and sounded real good...

That was back in the early 80s, and that Custom Legend Stereo is still what I grab when I feel the need to escape for a little while... the stereo feature on that one is unlike any other I've ever heard, instead of the top 3 strings being the left channel and the bottom 3 being the right channel, it goes left-right-left-right-left-right... when you're running that thing through a multichannel amp and doing a little flat picking, the sound is quite unique...

It ain't a Martin D-100, I'll admit, but I don't happen to have a spare 100 grand laying around for one of them... that sucker even has heavy mother of pearl inlay on the BACK of it... :D

I have always loved and wanted Star Inlays on a guitar.

Congrats and darn you at the same time.;)

Also noticed something on that guitar.

I am not sure if I have ever seen two double marker inlays on anything except octaves (12th &24th) frets but that one has two markers on the 9th and 12th.

Just different.

Ah...nothing quite like guitar-love.

I have a Rickenbacker 330 Fireglo....stereo.

It's similar in that, it's just got a sound that's perfect for a certain feel. It's not a very versatile guitar but when you're looking for THAT sound...

Nice to see there are some other guitar freaks here...I'm sure BP will be arriving shortly.

How funny....I just said that you'd be here shortly...

It's really a Gibson Everly model...

I've tried..and own...other acoustics. I keep going back to Gibsons.

I can not afford a new guitar right now.: Have a few on my wish list but they will have to wait, if I get them at all in the future.

However right now I traded two of my guitars that I did not use much and were taking up space.

Traded them for another warlock (the metal head in me and I have always loved the warlock shape).

So with that guitar a guy I know, that painted my jackson, is going to paint the warlock for me.

I will have to wait until I get it before I say what paint job he is doing but I have seen pictures of other guitars with the same scheme and if it turns out half as good as those I will be very happy.

Not an acoustic guitar but have you checked out the new Dean Solteros?

No they do not have that dean V headstock.

These guitars are basically the dean version of the gibson LP.

They have some modifications to the body the make it more comfortable and so on. A few people that have got them swear by them.

I think the original person they made one of them for was Leslie West of Mountain.

I know you are mostly into vintage looking guitars (no pointies or superstrat shapes) So I figured you might want to check those out.

Hey...ya know...given my latest business disaster I was thinking "You really shouldn't be doing this..." but screw it. I did it anyway.

:)

You have to take some pics of the jackson and show them here.

I need to get a decent camera.

These are the pics he sent when he was working on the Jackson. The first ones are of him stripping off the old paint and going forward from there to the last pics.

Those pics do not do it justice as he went on to add more clear coats and other things to give the paint depth and also to make the glitter in it show up. Plus the lighting in those pics are off. He was showing me those pics before he was done and I was a little disappointed until I actually got it live and was shocked at how great it looked.

He called the style red lava marblizing.

1. This is when he first stripped off the clear coat. Like I said the photos are not great as that guitar looks to be black but in reality it was a dark green.

2.Another when the gloss has been stripped down and he applies a black base coat.

http://img160.*************/img160/3050/download3xs5.th.jpg
3. This was applying a gold/glitter coat.

http://img523.*************/img523/7654/download4oj5.th.jpg
4. This is the initial marblizing done with the black and gold.

5. The rest are after the red is added and one initial clear coat.

http://img240.*************/img240/3268/download6mb2.th.jpg

The photos make it look kind of orange but it is more of a dark red.

I wish I had a decent camera to show it because it looks so much better.

It's a blast how each step looks like you could have said "Stop, I like it the way it looks"

The marble look is great. And dark red is a niiiiice color for a guitar.

Best part is, this guitar is the ONLY one of it's kind.

:laugh2: When I first saw that initial gold/glitter coat I was thinking...Hell I like that and could live with that alone.:D

He did all of that, upgraded the pickups, added a booster with the pickups and did a pro setup. Pretty good price. More than I really should spend but at the time it was something cool for me.

This time it is not costing me any money except for shipping and handling.

Oh I can't wait to see it when he gets it done. Not going to be a marbalizing or solid color paint job. We are going Marlin Perkins, for those that remember watching his shows back in the day, on this bad boy.

Now if I could just get Star Inlays.

I swear I have thought many times, mostly day dreaming as I don't have the money, about getting some custom guitars ordered for this company or that and have always had the star inlays as part of what I wanted no matter the model of guitar.

Of all people, John Denver wrote a song that I think sums up guitar love perfectly... it's titled "This Old Guitar", and in the first verse he sings:

This old guitar taught me to sing a love song
It taught me how to laugh and how to cry
It introduced me to some friends of mine
And brightened up some days
And helped me make it through some lonely nights
What a friend to have on a cold and lonely night...

A bit sentimental, perhaps, but I can REALLY relate to those last 2 lines... when I'm down, and can't sleep, I swear I hear that Ovation whispering to me "I can make it better"...

And 99 times out of a hundred, it does just that... to draw an analogy, I've always said that I love golf mostly because for 4-5 hours, I don't have any problem in the world except getting that ball into the cup in the fewest number of shots... and when I pick up my guitar, I don't have any problems at all, at all... I just let it take me wherever it will, and before you know it, a coupla hours have passed, I'm feeling a lot better, and I can get some sleep...

The best thing about my Ovation is it has a rather small fingerboard, somewhat less space between frets that most... having a small pair of hands, it just fits me like it was made for me...

I am not all that familiar with Washburn electric guitars. Know a few here and there.

I also know Ibanez used to make an Iceman model that Paul Stanley would use.

I know that Gene Simmons is a gear ho but do not know about Paul Stanley.

However that has to be a Paul Stanley model...just screams his style.

I'm that way with Gibson's.

I have a few Taylor's but really don't like the neck...

And yeah, I hear ya about the guitar. I have a studio in my house and I'll go in there to record and lose ALL track of time.
