I love Lynch.

You are referring to "Mom" Lynch's famous guitar sculpted by j frog garcia. I thought he actually played the second one live alot, I dont ever recall hearing him say that he didnt like it. I do remember him saying he hated kramer guitars! He was a fan and friend of wayne charvel and then just played esp.

Anyway, here is the link to the story of the mom guitar, the guitar seen in the video "Dream Warriors" the theme song to nightmare on elm street 3 which rocks as lynch always does.
Here is a low quality video link to the dream warriors video!

here is the link to the info on the mom or bones guitar.

Cowboy Jeff is correct. George Lynch did say that in an interview in one of the guitar mags back in the late 80's or early 90's.

I used to buy all of those mags and I remember him saying that the guitar looked killer but it did not sound good so he never used it in recording.

However one also must note that George is infamous for NEVER liking his tone and going through many hours of trying to get a sound he likes while recording.

Here are examples. While recording an albume He tried all of his guitars and amps, the recording studio had some other guitars and amps and he tried those. Still could not find the sound he wanted. So he went to Jake E Lees house and begged jake to let him use a marshall or some amp. Jake said no so george waited till jake was out doing something and took the Amps. I do believe he returned them later.

Another story about him was that he really liked the sound he got while recording in europe or germany once. Said for some reason his amps just had a different sound and it was really dialed in.

He took the same amp and guitars back in the states and could not get the same sound no matter what he did. So he figured it must have been the voltage change (some other countries have different voltages or setups in their electrical outlets). So he did everything he could do to try and change that somewhere here so he could get that sound again. Never found out if he managed to get it.

Point is he has always been fussy about his sound. Another point is it probably was not the shape of the guitar but could be other factors if it sounded bad. Wood, Paint, was it a neck through, set neck or bolt on, the pickups. Type of fixed bridge or tremolo system.

I was lucky enough to see George a few times over the years when he toured with Lynch Mob. Each time I saw him, the sound was atrocious. His guitar was just burried in muddied noise and he kept screaming at the soundboard tech throughout the shows. I guess perfectionists are rarely satisfied with their craft, and for good reason. I wonder if George still thinks Don is the Ethel Merman of metal :D

:laugh2: ethel merman of metal.

Tell George to hire a better sound guy or maybe tell him to get with Seymour Duncan and make a better pickup for him. He has his own signature pickup.

I always liked his playing. Plus it is cool that he was a cat that had no formal training and could not read a note of music but could play like he did.

However I have heard from many people that he is a jerk.

I'm sorry, a guitar ought to look like a guitar, not a freakin' rocket ship... a well-made guitar is a work of art...

Take a look at an early, tiger-striped Les Paul Sunburst, and you'll know what I mean...

While I understand what you mean... and I do know that guitar, it was more of a matter of who played them I guess...

Matthias Jabs was one of my favorites and he was one of the few that played the Explorer so it was different...

Randy Rhoades was one of the few that could work the Flying V like he did. I've never played one, but I understand they are very difficult guitars to play in regards to style.

Heck, I like Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick. His Hamer guitars are far from the norm but I like them because they are different. (Nielsen is HIGHLY underated IMO)

about 20 years ago I remember hearing an interview with guitar extrordinaire George Lynch. He had a skeleton carved guitar that he said looked wild, but sounded like crap. He said he used it mainly as a prop because it sounded so bad, and then pointed to a Jackson guitar he loved.

Another thing that ticks me off is when performers smash their guitars on stage... I keep thinking that there are probably at least 20 or 30 aspiring pickers out in their audience who'd kill to own a nice guitar like the one they just trashed...

Just gimme a nice vintage Les Paul, a nice vintage Strat, and a nice prewar Martin dreadnought, and I'll be one happy Bear... won't ever ask for anything else...

For that matter, when it comes to Martins, I'd enjoy owning either one of their Jim Croce signature models, the D-21JC (with a 1973 dime inlaid in the 3rd fret, a tribute to the "you can keep the dime" line in "Operator"), or the Jimmy Buffett Shellback signature model, the 000-JBS... that one has a real sharp mahogany face on it... they actually have 3 different Buffett signature models, which has to be a record for them-- the Margaritaville, the Shellback, and the Pollywog... all are designed to stand up to ocean weather conditions...

Other interesting signature editions include their replica of Willie Nelson's "Trigger", the B-20WN (which I presume does not come with the famous hole in its face of the original, LOL), or their Don McLean Signature D-49DM, which pays homage to the song "American Pie"... I got a chance to see McLean in concert down in El Paso when I was in college, not long before he hit it big, and I can tell you that guy could make that Martin sing, big time... he came out on stage all by himself, not a backup musician in sight, and for an hour and a half he gave us shuffle boogie, samba, just about any kind of guitar style you could want to hear... I don't think many people realize what a gifted guitarist he was, it was an amazing performance... then there's the Dan Fogelberg signature edition, the D-41DF...

Yeah, I like me some Martins... but my musical tastes run more to acoustic music anyway, I was a card-carrying folkie in my teens and early 20s... I cut my teeth on Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor...

I agree if it's not part of the show. When I see a Paul Stanley smash a guitar every night, he's getting paid by the endorsed guitar manufacturer to do so (and they'll give him a new one every night).

When I see someone who's just pissed off at something who smashes his guitar in disgust knowing he'll get a new one if he complains, then yeah that ticks me off.

Yes that always irked me. Give it to a kid in the audience, auction them off for charity or at the very least get some that are already crap and switch them out before smashing them.

I've never been a big strat fan. To me (just my preference), I think the Strat has a "tin" sound compared to the richness of a vintage Les Paul. And while I love to play just straight forward rock with my Marshall half stack, I REALLY love the sound of a Mesa Boogie amp.

I admit I am not a gibson guy.

The only gibbies I care for are SGs and Vs. Now the others are nice instruments, most play well but they are just not my cup of tea. I find them very uncomfortable to play due to the necks.

I like the sound of Fender strats but once again find the necks uncomfortable.

I like either superstrats (body shape of the strat but made by different companies normally with humbuckers instead of single coils).

I like Warlocks, Stealths, Mockingbirds.

ML's and Razorbacks.

Many different versions of a V.

Superstrats.

I don't like the LP shape with the single cutaway.

I have to have a guitar that I feel the neck is comfortable to me. I have played some guitars that sounded nice, were vintage but just did not find the neck comfortable. When your guitar neck is not comfortable you find yourself putting the instrument down quicker than normal. When you have to fight the neck it takes away from just playing.

It's that Single coil vs the Humbucker IMO.

Although there are strats with Humbuckers in the bridge position..Fat Strats.

I like a mix of both sounds. Nice to have humbuckers with the taps in them so you can switch between single or hum.

Another thing with me is I like the looks of a double humbucker or a single humbucker with two single coils for the middle and neck position.

It is mostly visual for me but I just don't like the looks of a single humbucker or three humbuckers (I know your ace one has three). I also don't like the looks of slanted pickups whether they are single or humbuckers.

You might want to pick up the new CD from Shaw-Blades. (Tommy Shaw from Styx and Jack Blades from Night Ranger, and both guys are also from Damn Yankees) Their new CD is called Influence and it's just a bunch of cover songs from the '60s and '70s, a lot of it acoustic. They do 2 Simon And Garfunkle Songs on the disc. Here's the track listing:

1. Summer Breeze
2. Time Of The Season
3. Your Move
4. I Am A Rock
5. Lucky Man
6. The Sound Of Silence
7. California Dreamin'
8. On A Carousel
9. Dirty Work
10. For What It's Worth
11. Dance With Me

And here's the link, so you can hear samples (scroll down to the middle of the page on the link and access the Windows Media Player samples):

Just rig something up, get in your whitie tighties. Stand on the bed and start playing guitar with the smoke going off. I am sure it will either get the wife in the mood or a skillet upside the noggin.:laugh2:

Ah the beauty of a guitar, an amp and some overdrive/distortion...makes you feel like a young rebel.

Or you could do like I used to do. Play some mellow cheesy music and make up some halmark lyrics for the wife so she is getting into the music and than kick the distortion and and go into a metal song.

So it would be like...I love you, you are my everything, will you take my hand and <Kick into the distortion> JUMP IN THE FIRE (old metallic song). :laugh2:

Now she pretty much leaves me alone when I play guitar.:D
