Now we unleash the real defense!

Unleash hell upon the waves of demons.
Or Unleashed Jet Li
Either way I want some serious ***-kicking to take place:mad:

If anyone has an educated guess I’d love to hear it.

I'll toss a theory out there just for giggles: Dallas D has been purposely not playing hard to a) avoid injuries in games that don't require excessive risk and b) keep future opposing offenses guessing.

Sure hope so...

Jaylen said after the game today when asked, that the defense has been "average" this season. Not to their standard.

I think the defense will play better.
But jesus, this defense has allowed 17, 21 and 6 points in 3 games, with 14 of those points literally coming in prevent 4th quarter "let 'em score if it moves the clock" mode.
I don't care who that's against, its not BAD. So basically we've allowed 30 points TOTAL in 3 games when the games weren't already decided. Against ANY NFL teams that is decent.

If they control the Saints from scoring in like fashion, I'll join you in saying That's not bad!
I'm not saying they can't or won't, I'm just hopeful the defense looks better against the Saints.

I think the effort was there, but you clearly saw true, basic D calls in the 1st half and when that wasn't working, they came with the hurt and different calls in the 2nd half and it clearly worked.
We also witnessed the O fooling around in the 1st with Dak not taking much seriously and a real change in the 2nd.

It sure could be that they were doing their best not to show their hands on inferior opponents to their next competition.

Buckle your seat belts - we've been able to dominate on offense and haven't had to really play anything but vanilla defense; thus far. Now we enter the meat & potatoes part of our schedule and it's time we start dialing up stunts and blitzes and bring the thunder & unleash our all world linebackers as well!
Meh, what you see is what you get...

I remember a Church trying to become a movie studio, using that phrase as an anagram for who they were and they literally tried to remake Star Wars Ep. IV, but with more specific religious overtones for a theatrical release.

It didn't work.

Quite frankly, the defense looked completely ordinary the 1st half today. A good QB would have lit them up to the tune of 20-21 points by halftime.

It is very possible that Dallas has been playing Vanilla Defense since the teams were not very good. We will see them dial-up more sophisticated schemes and blitzes against the Saints. Why would you want to show your hand with opponents that weren't very strong?

Just because a player says we haven’t played to our “standards” doesn’t mean they are actually going to play up to said standards. Last year Dak and Co (before Cooper) always said “We need to play better. We aren’t playing up to standards.” Did they play up to standard? Barely/rarely.

Also, we played against Case Keenum, Eli Manning, and Josh Rosen. I will give the Dallas D the benefit of the doubt for the first 2 games since they were division rivals, however, even that amount of ridiculous. Those teams are ranked in the bottom offensively wise. They should have barely put up 1 TD. The Bears defense is how you truly play defense. These QB’s are not QB’s you fear.

The Saints game last season was when we found out how good this defense could be. They didn't hold up in the playoffs against the Rams and they haven't been the same since. It would be nice for our defense to find itself once again during the Saints game. How apropos would that be?

Marinelli only plays one way.

He does NOT make ajustments. See the Rams game. He stayed in 4-2-5 nick vs a powerful run game.

Stubborn as a mule.

People still want to believe the defense will change and adapt.

It won't.

BBDB is safe and boring.

That’s what makes no sense.

Nothing has changed. If anything, they’ve added players like Quinn and DLaw isn’t playing with a torn shoulder.

If anyone has an educated guess I’d love to hear it.

Nobody thought last year’s defense was any good after week 3, either. Most thought the whole team was pretty bad until after the TEN game.

More blitzes from Jaylon or anybody would be nice. More playing time for Lewis and Wilson too.

I can't help but suspect that our defense was overconfident to some extent during the first half of the game vs. the Fins. If that was the case, they made up for it in the 2nd half. Our guys would be wise to avoid that with NO, though, since they're far more dangerous than Miami. If we go into that same mode Sunday night, it'd likely be a big mistake. Garrett and the staff will caution them generously -- let's hope it won't fall on deaf ears.

I think the defense is going to be fine. Not many sacks and no INTs, but they give up 14.7ppg. That's good enough for 4th overall behind the Pats (5.7ppg) GB (11.7ppg) and Chicago (13ppg).

I think once the defense gets more reps, get healthy (no X Woods and no Antaun Woods) plus the addition of Robert Quinn - then we will see their full potential.

Reps are key because Marinelli and Richard rested a lot of players in OTAs, preseason, etc. They are probably just now getting back into the thick of things.

Once we have our full compliment of defensive players, then we can truly judge them. But not yet in my opinion.

We've seen it.

Playing the same since 2013/14.

They've added the 4-2-5 as our base last season.

Not much else has changed. Haven't seen many A gap blitzes. A few times a game we may see one of the LBs blitz.

Its a BBDB defense.

4 DL rush. Everyone else in coverage.

Marinelli has been playing BBDB for years now.

People complain, for good reason, about the lack of an aggressive pass rush, lack of ints, lack of sacks, etc. etc. etc

He plays it safe.

Make the other team drive the field.

Make them kick FG's.

Its works vs weaker teams.

Not so much vs Rodgers and tier 1/2 QB's.
Agree. We need to get the ball back to our offense as much as possible. Getting into a safe lead allows Kellen Moore to be dangerous. I believe we are the only team in the NFL to not start a drive on the opposing side of the 50 this year. That is ridiculous. We have two drives that started behind our 10 yard line (resulted in touchdowns). Imagine what a short field would do for us. Comfortable leads, that will lead to more sacks and turnovers.
